Dragon Age 2 demo launches tomorrow (Feb 22nd)

  • Comment
Bioware will be releasing a demo for Dragon Age 2 tomorrow, February 22nd. The demo allows you to choose any of the three classes (Warrior, Mage, or Rogue), play through the prologue, and enter the city of Kirkwall. You'll learn about Hawke, the player character, and meet Isabella, a smuggler and potential romantic interest. Completing the demo unlocks Hayder's Razor, a sword that can be used once Dragon Age 2 is released on March 8th, 2011.

Bioware is also running a contest/promotion with the demo. If one million players download the demo across all three platforms (PC, Xbox 360, PS3) before March 1st, two additional items will be unlocked. Both items are books; The Far Cliffs of Kirkwall gives money when read while Lothering's Lament gives experience. A little dull, but still helpful, so make sure you download the demo tomorrow.

A New Challenge not been met? or is that only available to those that have Facebook? It says by the 4th and today is the 6th. I have no use for Facebook so I hope it is a community wide unlock...

I finally just broke down and pre ordered it....it was a combination of BioWare past record of telling a pretty good story in spite of the combat and me getting my new 560Ti GTX and seeing what the demo looked like in DX11. I still laugh when I think about JimUK's you tube video of one of the demo battles with "Test Your Might!" from Mortal Kombat playing in the background. I does feel like a Mortal Kombat combo type fighing adventure mode game. Dragon Kombat? or Mortal Age...

*EDIT* has "A New Challenge" not been met? or is that only available to those that have Facebook? It says by the 4th and today is the 6th. I have no use for Facebook so I hope it is a community wide unlock...

    dayyum, tough crowd

I for one love the new animations and stuff, the old DAO animations, especially the casting ones look like the product of monkeys.

... Afaik the 2 1rst bonus items are available
for each ea dragon age account, not
just for those who were logged in while
    playing the demo.

You are sooooo right. Everyone gets those first two tomes (and I guess the FB one as well, if the goal is reached.) I had forgotten that these were Community-wide promotions. <img class=">

Tried out the mage and I got to say, healing can take a rather long time for cooling down. Playing the demo as a Mage seems hard enough even when fighting the Ogre.

The Mage is the easiest class to play in the Demo by far.

Don't use Heal; it is terrible and pretty much completely unnecessary anyway. The Potions give more than enough healing.

Just keep switching off between Fireball and the first Frost skill and you can kill most anything quickly. Throw in an Inferno every now and again for some spice.

The combat system is awesome and dynamic and I still feel like playing Dragon Age, even better actually.

I agree that the combat system is arguably better. The combat structure, however, is the problem.

Running down linear paths and encountering waves of enemies emerging from the scenery from time to time, a lá Mass Effect 2, is just so... meh. It gets old fast. At least Diablo let's you wander about its areas.

True, the full game might not consist solely of those types of combats... but it seems highly likely that it will, seeing as how there was no variation in ME2 after all.

the 3rd tome is a rune tome wich comes
at the price of annoying facebook
friends for 5 days in a row with the
share of the da II facebook advert
    of the day.

About the counter boost: Fernando Melo
(BioWare) had mentioned that the counter was
just a gadget for the page viewers and that
they would add the counts from other sources
(than the one the counter related to) after
the weekend (yesterday / earlier today
    depending on the time zone).

Afaik the 2 1rst bonus items are available
for each ea dragon age account, not
just for those who were logged in while
    playing the demo.

For those who care, BioWare has raised the Success Flag for the Contest to get 1,000,000 download/playthroughs of the Demo by March 1st. So all of us who did it get the bonus items; two tomes, one for XP, one for gp. (meh)

I'd love to see the actual file and log-on server stats, since the webpage counter appeared mired in molassas at around 890K for most of the morning! <img class=">

Wow I might be one of the few to like the Demo, Play it three times already. The combat system is awesome and dynamic and I still feel like playing Dragon Age, even better actually. When I played the demo and go play DAO again (Witch Hunt lol)
I feel like I wouldn't wanna play DAO again anytime soon due to slower combat and mute player. Dragon Age II will rocks!
And I do have faith with Modding community!!

Now comparing the Devil May Cry fighting system to this may sound off but when I saw Hawke be able to go that fast with a two-handed? I thought what the heck? This isn't Devil May Cry.

I like it but I can tell it'll turn out to be one heck of a cheap advantage.

Yeah, they have turned the game into something that looks like an arcade fighter or something from The Matrix with those combat animations <img class=">It just looks absurd. I think this is the first time I have ever actually cancelled a pre-order for a game. Very disappointing.
