Unsubstantiated rumours place Fallout 4 in Boston, Massachusetts

  • Comment
A user on popular internet sharing site Reddit has posted claims that Bethesda has been researching Boston for the development of Fallout 4.

The rumors are true, Fallout 4 will take place in Boston. In case you haven't heard, Bethesda has recently been scoping out and researching Boston. They also have a strong connection to MIT. I may or may not be an MIT employee. But that's really all I can say for fear of losing my job.

I am telling you it will take place in Boston. Whether you believe me or not, how do you feel about a Fallout Boston?

Bethesda has (amazingly) refused to comment on the speculation despite the convincing disclaimer at the beginning of the anonymous tipster's post.

Massachusetts was referenced in Fallout 3 as "the Commonwealth", home of "the Institute", likely to be descended from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The Institute is reknowed as a centre of highly advanced scientific and technological discovery, while the rest of the Commonwealth is described as a violent and lawless place.

The player interacts in Fallout 3 with a member of the Institute. He is pursuing a runaway android that was built in and ran away from the Institute, with the help of an organisation called the Railroad (because they don't have anything better to do in a post-apocalyptic wasteland other than to help escaping androids). You can find out more about the Commonwealth and the Institute at the Vault.

The rumours are currently unsubstantiated, but Fallout 3/New Vegas Nexus will bring you more news as it becomes available.

I seem to be unable to start a new topic here so I'll just tack on this little ditty I came across the other day  -  http://www.bubblews.com/news/660463-fallout-4-announcement

Interesting for Boston but I hope we don't have to wait two more years for it.

This is my version of a Fallout 4 set in Boston:

I think Boston is good bet though. It has the institute, cool tech, androids, the railroad, and an urban environment which everybody seemed to love about FO3

Boston seems solid, from several sources; with release date set for next gen consoles, XBOX due Q3 2013, PS4 DEV. kit out JAN 2013, release date Q4 2013 but may
change to compete with XBOX. With SKYRIM mem. issue on PS3, FALLOUT4 would need next gen. console.

An area that covers cities, farms, woods, swamps. open land, and rocks. Or just combine fo3 an nv with more loot and strange people

San Fransco area and Los Angles might also be interesting, I wonder what has happened in hollywood after all that. I also liked swamp areas in Point Lookout and also alien ship.

And (buughost) Obsidian didnt even make the engine create most of the textures for weapons, creatures, armor and buildings so yes it took half as long

My vote would of been for Miami because its a big city with swamps and stuff (rad gators) or New York City because wouldnt it be cool to scavenge through 50 story buildings

I would have preferred Fallout 4 to take place in Missouri, or Louisiana. Then those gun toting rednecks from Point Lookout DLC could have made a believable and entertaining reappearance with virtually no backstory as to how they got there. I'm from MO, and I watch Swamp People..so I consider myself an expert on the species LOL. Boston though? I just can't wrap my head around that...Hopefully there's a "Cheers" bar somewhere and Sam's corpse to loot for a golden hair comb.

I also liked Fallout New Vegas. I feel people just didn't like the idea that it has an END. They should of made it go on / continue on, etc.. Most people like Fallout 3 because they have been there and can relate to it so it was fun in that way. FO3 also fixed their end to continue on. FNV should of had some newer vegas landmarks so players can relate to it more. I liked all the DLC of both games except not so much Anchorage because it was VR and not a new land to go back to but it did give great extra's like the stealth chinease suit (the best).
But I also liked FNVegas because I have seen alot of Vegas and the places near Vegas like Zion National Park. So I would have to say if the new Boston game sticks to detail of locations, etc. people will say hey I know that place and connect with it like Wash,DC and all the museums. But don't for get about Three Dog the radio jock - he made it enjoyable listening to it with updated heroics by you the player. I hope you can pick up Three Dog in Boston..

im really tired of people bashing new vegas for long load times and little exploration they fixed so many things and the story line was way better than fallout 3. fallout 3's story was black and white u were good bad or in between o yeah and they only had 2 YEARS TO DEVELOP FALLOUT NV unlike 4 years for fallout 3. anyway i hope they combine the strong storyline and variable weapons and perks of fallout nv and the exploration of fallout 3.btw whoever keeps bringing up fallout on the moon STOP. mothership zeta was already a major stretch on the lore and that would deminish the point of fallout.
