New Premium Member server and server stability update

  • Comment
The new year is upon us and with it comes its share of joys and jolts.

First things first the move to the new file server architecture is now complete and there are now 4 file servers for the 3 Nexus sites. Please insure that you try and pick servers with the least number of users on them; although one location might be closer to you than the others the file speeds are still currently capped at 150kb/sec so it really shouldn't matter too much.

On a similar note there is now a second Premium Member only server available to all current and new Premium Members. One server is located in Denver, USA and the other in Kent, UK. Premium members who have been experiencing slightly slow speeds on the old premium server might like to try out the new premium servers and see what they think. And remember the premium only servers support download accelerators/managers so you can pump those download speeds right up with a simple plugin like Down Them All.

With the outstanding success of Dragon Age Nexus the current server setup is getting very strained at times trying to keep up with all the people visiting the sites. This is what the IPS Driver Errors you might be receiving are being caused by. I'm constantly reviewing the situation and making small tweaks here and there and I'm busy working on a fundamental recode of the sites to work with the leap from 2.36 to 3.0.6 Invision Board (which is what the sites link up with for member/posting functions). I'm also in discussions with my current providers to look at the server architecture again. But rest assured it's being looked in to and we're all experiencing these problems.

One quick note: if you're getting errors when trying to download files then DO NOT refresh the page continiously in a short space of time. You'll get locked out of downloading that file ever again. Please just be patient and come back again in an hour or so.

Happy new year folks. I hope you're all as busy as me!

Hey Dark0ne and Team Nexus. Just want to say I've enjoyed how you guys have fully supported the modding community.

I've been a gamer/modder since the days of Doom and have enjoyed modding many games in the past. Oblivion and Fallout3 are some the best games ever mad, glad you are supporting them. I've yet to try Dragon Age, but I'm a big fan of Bethesda and BioWare (I've had old friends at both companies) so I will.

As someone who's also been a webdeveloper for number of years I have come to know about another solution you all may want to try.

I mentioned this elsewhere in some comments, concerning file downloads, but have you tried a Content Delivery Network? You know like Limelight, Highwinds, etc?

CDN's are what responsible for delivering things like 24/7 live streams and events. Many game distribution sites use CDN's to quickly deliver patches, entire games and etc.

A Most CDN's as far as I can tell reach the end users much better than cloud hosting and the like.nyway, thought it'd benefit the community a great deal if you were able to implement some of them.

Glad to read that your holiday celebrations went well and that you are freshened up.

I have been testing the limits of my computer video card speeds by turning the BIOS settings way too fast to see how long it would take to knock down the duo bridged Nvidia 8600 GT cards.

They actually would lose their drivers after a couple of hours and reboot them without any assist in Vista 64 bit. And yet, after awhile it became clear what the others playing the games they played were sad about. Their cards could not meet the full time they heated their computer cards playing their game. Two hours for the Nvideia 8600 GT and the game got slammed. Fallout 3s HD monitor turned into a screen mess.

I was impressed that it took nearly two months to worry them so that they turned the images into rectangular sparkles, which they did more often more so after a month and made it increasingly difficult to see the off/exit while in the game.

Now I have the computer BIOS running on Fast and find the video cards are just a tweak too high, but without the sparkle appearing every couple of hours. Now I don't have to reboot the machine to let them cool off.

To you and yours a Joyous Prosperous New Year.
