Bump. No water footsteps while following the total overhaul modlist at modding-openmw.com Looking into the file structure of the sounds, in foot, there doesn't seem to be anything there that has splashing footsteps.

I've made yet another patch trying to fix all revealed problems and then a bit more. Alternative version included with more places to hear ambient tavern and town sounds (mostly TR).

Changes: 1. Cleaned with tes3cmd, then cleaned manually (2 more cells) 2. Include BS_BM_WeatherChange, add Bloodmoon to masters 3. Fix region names 4. Port Patch for Purists fixes 5. Fix "Desele's house of earthly delights" sound record to correctly point to a file (to avoid bothering with renaming files) 6. Fix several errors in scripts (important for OpenMW, otherwise some didn't work and others produced a lot of errors in log) 7. Add check to prevent birds singing in Bitter Coast during very bad weather 8. Add checks to prevent cave wind and dark ambient sounds be heard outside (this fixes minor errors in a few mods)
Still having issues with this. I am following the mod list and have patched the better sounds mod (twice now, using your newest one as well) and my game is still silent when I enable the .esp. I really wish there was an easy way of fixing it because I really am sick of the old sounds of morrowind.
Forget about any patches then until you solve your problem with sounds.
I suspect you have placed sound files to a wrong path. Check your log for something like "couldn't load file *.wav". Recheck paths.

This mod works pretty straightforward. For example: - There is the Sound Record "FootLightLeft" in Morrowind and in this mod's plugin. This Sound Record is the definition of what sound file to play when left foot in light boot touches the ground: - Morrowind points to "Sound\Fx\FOOT\walkl_lt.wav" - Better sounds points to "Sound\Fx\FOOT\lightL.wav"
If you don't enable Better Sounds plugin then Morrowind records is used which plays file "walkl_lt.wav". When you enable Better Sounds plugin it tries to play "lightL.wav". Reasonable explanation of the silence is the absence of sound file at the expected path.
Sorry for the noob question, but I am wondering about some of the immediately noticeable changes to my game after installing this mod, and if they are even intentional or if I'm missing files. The first thing I'm noticing is that spellcasting is now almost completely silent. The second thing is that the godawful screeching of the first handy Cliff Racer to spot me has been replaced, but also curiously with mostly silence... I'm using OpenMW and following a mod list which suggests using a different patch for your better sounds, since apparently according to a wiki there are still a few minor issues with this mod. I'm not using either plugin file bundled with the unpatched version, since the mod list explicitly instructs me not to. Overall I'm honestly not certain this mod even works as intended, and judging by the many, many comments that the unpatched version breaks quests in the game, renames areas and conflicts with other mods, I'm very hesitant to actually use the plugins in the first file bundle. I literally only extracted the sounds folder and used a third party plugin from the OpenMW modding overhaul list, since I've found that one to be very reputable and reliable. I would love to actually be able to hear a sample of what this mod is even supposed to sound like when it actually works, but I haven't been able to find a single youtube video featuring this mod in spite of more than 1k endorcements. Can someone please share a link to any kind of video or audio clip so I can actually know what everyone is praising? Because my experience so far, having been extremely cautious and unwilling to risk breaking my save game, has been of mostly silence. Some sounds are definitely there, but like I said my spellcasting is almost inaudible (not sure if this is intended, but honestly it's better than the awful vanilla sound even if it is literally just silence), and so is the Cliff Racer (again, not a criticism, silence is definitely preferable to the vanilla sounds. I got so tired of the high keening that I honestly contemplated installing one of those mods that removes Cliff Racers, just to be rid of that sound). Anyhow, I will keep exploring the game with my truncated version of the full download. I seriously hope everything gets patched so not even OpenMW's wiki can list any bugs, but judging from the links above, there is still at least one minor bug in the current patch. Edit: A few minutes later and I can confirm that my experience without using the plugins from the core bundle definitely removes all sounds of spell casting. An Ash Ghoul was spamming spells at me in Telasero, Lower Level, and I only noticed because of the visual cues, not the sounds. Adding to the growing list of sounds I am no longer hearing is the swishing of weapon swings. When enemies miss, I hear nothing. When a blow connects, I do hear a thud and it sounds better than the vanilla sound. Disabled better sounds for now. It seems with my installation most sounds, including weather, are simply absent and I'm not willing to touch the plugins in the base file given how many people complain that those break their games.
I really like this mod and I think it really enhances the game, however, some of the magic sound effects are inconsistent, sometimes they are quiet and sometimes louder. It doesn't bother me a lot, though. Endorsed.
I'm using this with OpenMW and Darklocq's Better Sounds 1.1 Patch 2. I don't get prompted to accept each new sound, although the sounds are clearly replaced. problem?
