About this mod
Adds the hand-drawn paper map that came with physical copies of the game as an in-game item that you can open with the M key

This is mostly a Lua mod, but it has been physically added to the game world as a somewhat expensive purchase from in Mebestien Ence's shop in Pelagiad (or steal it, if you're so inclined...). Once the player is in possession of the map, they can open and close it using the M key, or by using it like any other book/scroll from their inventory.
You can zoom in, and click and drag on the map with the mouse.
This is intended as a QOL mod for players who enjoy using the hand-drawn map, but either don't have one, don't want to mess it up if they do, or simply so you don't have to refer to a digital version outside of the game - increasing immersion!
Other mods have added Morrowind's physical paper map in the past, but only as a total-replacement for the vanilla map, and they also removed your ability to see where you are or where you've explored. This was intended as a more challenging and immersive way of playing, but may not be for everyone. Paper Map of Vvardenfell keeps the vanilla map in-place and simply gives you an additional option! Personally I wanted both options, and I hope you enjoy this as much as I do.
If the previously described TOTAL map replacement with no position indicator sounds more your speed, check out:
INSTALLATION
Simply extract to your Data Files folder and enable the .esp. There shouldn't be any issues installing this mid-playthrough.
COMPATIBILITY
- MWSE-only at this time. Doesn't work with OpenMW at all. Sorry! If there's sufficient interest I can look at adding an OpenMW version. Leave a comment to let me know if you want a OpenMW version, please!
- Isn't going to be compatible with anything that adds M as a hotkey, or anything that modifies the interior of Mebestien Ence's shop. Otherwise it should be fine.
FUTURE VERSIONS
- Looking at adding a non-hotkey version for those that either don't want it, or so people can equip the map item via their preferred hotkey.
- I'd like to add the ability to close the map with the Escape key or whatever key you have mapped to close your menu.
- I'm working on a quest integration and hope to have that done by the end of the week. That will be a new standalone mod, however.
- If there's sufficient enthusiasm and interest around this, I can look at adding the Bloodmoon and Tribunal paper maps
KNOWN BUGS
From my admittedly light testing so far, it works well, but I have noticed a couple of easily avoidable issues:
- Don't add the map to your inventory using console commands immediately after starting the game
- Don't quit the game while the map is open. This crashes the game.
