About this mod

Silent tracks for Morrowind, to add periods of silence during exploration.

Permissions and credits

Morrowind contains a fairly limited amount of music and a common complaint over the years is that it becomes repetitive. It is easy to see why: Morrowind has approximately 23 minutes of music to cover the wilderness, towns and cities. Its easy to add new music tracks yourself to increase variety, however it can be difficult and time consuming to find music that feels like it fits and for me even Oblivion's extremely similar soundtrack doesn't feel right.

This mod takes a different approach and places 5 silent tracks inside of Data Files/Music/Explore to ensure that you hear the same tracks less frequently.

I have been conservative in the amount of total silence added. Because Morrowind selects tracks at random (similar to hitting shuffle on a music player) adding too many tracks increases the likelihood of creating long periods of dead air. However if you find that you don't mind such long stretches increasing the likelihood of my silent tracks playing is as simple as duplicating the files inside of the Date Files/Music/Explore.

To be as user friendly as possible I have made 4 variations on the mod with different track lengths: 5, 10, 15 and 20 minute versions respectively. If you would like variable silence that is as simple as downloading multiple versions of the mod and mixing and matching the files.

I would like to present a more curated version of this mod where the amount of silence is more tailored to providing a good experience, however I need feedback on people's experience with the mod to accomplish that to my satisfaction.

NEW VERSION 1.5: I have uploaded what I'm calling an 'experimental' version 1.5 which is less conservative than the other versions. This version contains 8 tracks that are 3 minutes long, matching the length of Morrowind's music tracks. This should increase the likelihood of silence occurring but decrease the likelihood of unwelcome extended periods. My vision for this configuration that it will create a natural rhythm where you experience alternating bursts of silence lasting 3-12 minutes with similarly timed bursts of music for a more pleasant, less repetitive experience.
