Description:
This mod adds MCM menu that contains list of items that will play gas mask breathing sound and/or apply resistances to player's character when equipped.

There are two versions of this mod:
  • Gasmask Sounds - adds just breathing sounds (1.1 version)
  • Gasmask Sounds and Effects - adds breathing sounds and resistances (1.2 version)

Check "Updating" section to check how to safely switch between versions.
Check "Compatibility" section to learn how to use both versions together.

List of sounds:
Currently mod adds just a single sound.

This list might be expanded in the future based on user suggestions and feedback.

List of effects:
Currently mod adds following effects:
  • Resist Common Disease
  • Resist Blight Disease
  • Resist Poison

Additional effects might be added in the future based on user suggestions and feedback.

Installation:
This mod requires MWSE, hance it is not for OpenMW.

For MO2 users:
  • Just download it and install like any other mod. Nothing special here. Congratulations.
For Wrye Mash users:
  • You can either install as an installer or do it manually
For Vortex users:
  • why are you using Vortex? Srsly, rethink this.
For manual installation:
  • We all unzip together. Drop mod directory in Data Files

Updating:
Any updates should be performed with items marked as gasmask unequipped to avoid issues.

  • You can remove Gasmask Sounds safely, but remember to take of the gasmask.
  • You can remove Gasmask Sounds and Effects safely, but remember to take of the gasmask.

Technically, you can use both versions of this mod at the same time, however there is no need to have Gasmask Sounds and Gasmask Sounds and Effects active at the same time. They do the same thing. Effects version just add extra features. Starting with both versions active will create two positions in MCM menu ("Gasmask Sounds" and "Gasmask Sounds and Effects").

Uninstalling:
Its super simple:
  • Unequip gasmask
  • Remove mod by any method

How it works:
  • When item is equipped, script checks if its id is on list "Gasmasks" in mod configuration menu. MCM only displays items that are of armor or clothing type.
  • If item is on the list, the script starts playing gas mask breathing sound. Also, if you are using Gasmask Sounds and Effects version, resistances are applied at this point.
  • You can control the volume of the breathing sound and effects strength via mod configuration menu. However, effects added by Gasmask Sounds and Effects version, will only update after you re-equip the gasmask.

Currently, you can change gas breathing sound by simply swapping gasmask_sound.wav for something else in mods directory.

Compatibility:
The way this mod works makes it compatible with everything, including with items added by other mods. Currently the only requirement is that item must be of clothing or armor type.

Protective Helmets adds almost the same functionality as Gasmask Sounds and Effects. You can safely use both at the same time if you add items present on Gasmask list to Protective Helmet's blacklist. If you don't do that, you will receive resistances from Protective Helmets and Gasmask Sounds and Effects at the same time.

Having both Gasmask Sounds and Gasmask Sounds and Effects active allows you to apply gasmask sounds to some items and Gasmask Sounds and effects to others. For example, Gasmask Sounds for diving equipment and Gasmask Sounds and Effects for stuff that you want to protect your character from environment.

Bugs:
If you equip item marked as gasmask, remove it from list in MCM and then unequip it, you might end up with breathing sound continuing to play and effects still active.
If that happens, add item back to gasmask list, equip it, unequip it and then remove it from gasmask list.

If you use "Repair All" function of Wrye Bash on your save, it can delete spells such as "au_gasmask_effect_blight", "au_gasmask_effect_disease" etc. This is fine. Spells used by this mod are created via script so everything should work fine.
