About this mod

This Mod makes simple but effective changes to vanilla bows' damage, speed, value and durability to make their progression curve smoother and bring them up to speed with other weapon types in terms of power and, more importantly, variety.

Marksman is kind of a forgotten weapon type in Morrowind, their weapons are clunky and often underpowered but I quite enjoy both the fantasy and gamplay of using them. There are a few mods on this site that attempt to make marksman more powerful and interesting but none of them has quite done it for me. This Mod is my take on the idea, although it only focuses on bows, not crossbows or throwing weapons.

This mod makes a series of changes to the stats of vanilla bows with the aim to make the progression curve a little bit smoother, to make unique and artifact bows more interesting and to make endgame bows more powerful, although still weaker than melee two handed weapons. To achieve this I have changed the damage, value, enchantment potential, durability and speed of certain bows as I saw fit. This mod does not add any new wepons, only changes the already existing ones.

The changes to weapon speed are what sets this mod out from other mods and hopefully bring a bit of variation to an otherwise very samey weapon type. All weapons in morrowind have a weapon speed that determines how fast they attack, but while most normal weapons have varying weapon speeds that help differentiate them, all marksman weapons (with the exception of dwemer darts for some reason) have a speed of 1. This is boring. With this mods shortbows will shoot faster and deal less damage per shot, while longbows will deal more damage but shoot slower. The two endgame artifacts, Auriel's Bow and the Bow of Shadows are set up in this way so that you migh choose to use the one that most suit your playstyle, or alternate between the two.

Below are all changes made to the different bows in the game as well as a short description of the motivation for the changes. In parenthesis is the damage per speed unit of each weapon, use that to compare raw damage output with the vanilla items:

Chitin Shortbow: The Chitin Shortbow is fine in vanilla, honestly maybe a little to powerful for a starter weapon, I left it as is.
Durability:500 - > 500
Damage:1-10 - > 1-10
Speed: 1 - > 1
Enchantingpotential: 1 - > 1
Value: 20 - > 20

Shortbow: The regular Shortbow has had it's durability increased to bring it in line with other early two handed weapons and it's speed increased to reflect it's more compact natrue, the raw damage is higher than vanilla as well as the value, should be more of an upgrade from the Chitin Shortbow
Durability:500 - > 700
Damage:1-15 - > 1-15 (1-19.5)
Speed: 1 - > 1.30
Enchantingpotential: 2 - > 2
Value: 60 - > 80

Longbow: The Longbow has had it's damage slightly increased, it is intended as an alternative to the shortbow rather than a replacement. Durability increased in line with other early wepons.
Durability:550 - > 850
Damage:  1-20 - > 1-23 (1-23)
Speed: 1 - > 1
Enchantingpotential: 3.5 - > 3.5
Value: 50 - > 70

Steel Longbow: Drawing a Longbow made of solid Steel probably wouldn't be easy but it would pack a punch, to reflect this the speed of the weapon has been decreased but it's damage has been significantly buffed. The value has also been reaised as it is now meant to occupy the place in progression that the Bonemold Longbow had in vanilla. Durability also increased.
Durability:600 - > 1000
Damage:1-25 - > 1-35 (1-31.5)
Speed: 1 - > 0,9
Enchantingpotential: 3.5 - > 5
Value: 100- > 310

Bonemold Longbow: Now meant to be the "Dwarven Tier" type weapon of the bow line, Price, durability and damage increased, but speed has been left the same as I see this as the inherently balanced Longbow in size and strenght. Enchant potential has been lowered, the original ammount was probably a typo.
Durability:700 - > 1800
Damage:1-30 - > 1-37 (1-37)
Speed: 1 - > 1
Enchantingpotential: 40 - > 15
Value: 250- > 700

Daedric Longbow: Daedric weapons are extraordinarily heavy and resistant, this is now refelct by a higher durability and the slowest draw speed of all bows, counteracted by massive damage on each shot. Enchantment Value has also been raised to accomodate moderately powerful constant effect enchantments to counteract the lack of on strike effects.
Durability:1000 - > 3000
Damage:2-50 - > 2-70 (2-59.5)
Speed: 1 - > 0.85
Enchantingpotential: 10.5 - > 25
Value:50000 - > 50000

Bonebiter Bow of Sul-Senipul: This bow is found in the same cave as Magebane and yet it is absolute garbage and frankly unusable by the stage of the game you get it at. It is now more in line in powerlevel with the unique it shares a location with. This is the fastest bow in the lineup.
Durability:600 - > 1200
Damage:1-20 - > 1-34 (1-45.9)
Speed: 1 - > 1.35
Enchantingpotential: On Use Damage Agility 20 on target (5 uses) - > Same but 10 uses
Value: 105- > 1000

Shortbow of Sanguine Sureflight:  No changes made to this one except for the ones made to the baseline shortbow.
Durability:500 - > 700
Damage:1-15 - > 1-15 (1-19.5)
Speed: 1 - > 1.3
Enchantingpotential: On use fortify Marksman 7 for 30s (5 uses) ->
Value: 80 - > 150

Auriel’s Bow: The demigod bow is now actually good, boasting good durability, high damage, faster than average speed and a unique on use enchantment inspired by it's enchantments in the other games in the series. It should now actually be worth getting, as it is by all meassures harder to acquire than a Daedric Longbow.
Durability:1000 - > 4500
Damage:2-50 - > 1-68 (1-74.8)
Speed: 1 - > 1.1
Enchantingpotential: 7 - > On use damage fatigue 25-50 on target,Fire Damage 20-40 on target, Shock Damage 10-20 on target, Light 15ft for 30
sec on target, Fortify Marksman 20 for 20 sec on self (5 uses)
Value:30000 - > 30000

Bow of Shadows: The Bow of Shadows has had it's damage output increased significnatly with a higher base damage and faster attack speed. The enchantment now lasts less time but has more charge, with the idea of using it several times in a ptiched battle to pop in and out of combat.
Durability:3000 - > 5000
Damage:4-40 - > 5-55 (6-71.5)
Speed: 1 - > 1.30
Enchantingpotential: On use invisibility and fortify speed 20-30 for 30s (5 uses) - > On use invisibility and fortify speed 20-30 for 15 sec (15 uses)
Value:42000 - > 42000

The Bound Longbow has been left as is, which is to say it will be weaker than the modded Daedric Longbow, this is to balance out the fact that you can very easily acquire the Bound Longbow in early game and render all other bows redundant.
