About this mod

A BETA release for Jarvik Part I of the new Big City Project.

Jarvik was the first town to emerge on this archipelago. The capital moved to Yarwich many, many years ago but this town is still a thriving centre of commerce... among other things.
Its culture and architecture are reminiscent of that of nineteenth-century Britain.

"The Slumbering Isles Part I"
A
Big City Project.
“Jarvik Harbour and Town.”

Sorry folks but this project has been shelved indefinitely :(

Please remember this is a Beta release… it is not a finished mod.

NOTE!

"BetterBodies" by Psychodog Studios is required to be installed but it is not necessary for it to be activated.
Unless you want lots of cloths clipping and ugly people.

I've tried using coc but it didn't work... I just kept ending up inside a rock somewhere in the Ashlands... I don't know why maybe to do with OpenMW?
So to get to "Jarvik" travel to "Dagon Fel" go around the back of "The End of The World" tavern, there beyond the well you will see a door in the wall.
Then... guess what...

Current testing also indicates that this is OpenMW compatable(ish).
There are what appears to be a few problems related to collision boxes though. Hopefully these can be resolved.

Hello Fellow Modders!

I am looking to put together a new mod team, to revive a beautiful mod known in the past by many names.
Have you heard of "The Big City" project? Perhaps "The Victorian City", "Yarwich," or "Jarvick"?
If you have, you should be pleased to know this mod is now going to be moving forward in a new direction.
If not, then be prepared to get inspired!

I am reviving this project mainly for myself… because I’m bored with the current games I’ve been playing and modding the past 6yrs… and I did always enjoy modding Morrowind and although I have many modding skills (self praise indeed) I still lack all the skills needed to fully complete even this one area.

Hence I’m hoping to put together a new project team to actually meet those requirements.

If this should happen then I will put in a lot more time and effort to the project.
But if not then I will continue this as a hobby… just working on it as the mood takes me amending existing and adding new stuff as needed… of which I
know there will be much.

Why Morrowind and not Skyrim I hear some say… well… firstly Morrowind is comparatively so much easier to mod… but probably the main reason is the hundreds of new and unique assets available in this project.
Unless of course anyone knows how to convert… easily and on mass… literally hundreds of meshes from Morrowind to Skyrim... only then would I consider starting again from scratch in Skyrim.

But Morrowind is ugly... really! compared to what... Minecraft?

So if anyone is interested in joining me to make a new project team a reality.
Then please contact me.

The idea being is if you have any ideas don’t just tell me about it come in and join the team and join in the fun.

I’m going to be realistic here though… without help finishing not even just this small first part is ever likely to be finished let alone the whole island.

I will however regardlessly continue to work on this project for my own enjoyment of modding.

The Current Area’s I am going to work on with this mod are:

Jarvik harbour:
There are 2 ships, 9 shops, 1 tavern, an Official building, a Guest house and a Detective’s office, along with dozens of other unfurnished rooms.

The Brewer’s Quarter:
This area has over 70 building’s (20 shops) including an Akaviri District. About half have interiors 10 of which are also furnished. There is also a Church, Tavern’s (one's a bit special), a Blacksmith and a Brewery that as yet has no interior and is ripe for further development.

Outside Area’s:
There are a couple of outside area’s included... all of which are mostly complete… with a (empty) ruin at the end.

The Asylum:
I have included the Asylum but will probably not work on it further for this mod. It would probably need to be a project in and of its own.

The New Plan:
As can be deduced there is still plenty of furnishing and decorating to be done. Most of the outside street area’s are also in need of cluttering up to make them look lived in.

There are dozens of buildings that have no interior at all then there are dozens more that have interiors but no content… there are however some that are completely furnished but could still do with a bit more clutter.

So a lot to do there still… currently though there will be no new areas or buildings to create.

I still have a long way to go to make this a Town and Harbour area others want to explore and will definitely need the help from quest writers to  complete this mod.

Quests:
I do have a dozen or so quests already written and ready to add... some more testing required ;)
Also a few more ideas still to be worked out in detail... lots more needed.

While it would be fantastic to have lots of long complex quests... to be honest it is more likely they will be a sort of slightly interactive short story.
But as long as they are interesting I'm sure that will work.

If anyone is interested in joining me in completing this then please contact me.

Video’s:
Originally made in 2014 for another version that was released but not finished.

An even earlier video made back in 2011 for the Big City

Although this new mod will now only include a small portion of the original project the content of those two videos will for the most part still hold true
and are added here so anyone who does not know anything about the original mod can see what it was about.

My Planned Timeline: note I have no actual dates set ;)

Stage One: Done
Create a new forum and post relevant information, members only – Done
Condense a version for Beta release – Done

A Brief Backstory for the Slumbering Isle’s:

Long ago the people of Tamriel knew all about the Dwemer but shunned the use of this technology.
Our ancestors though belonged to a select society that believed they should embrace it and use it for the betterment of everyone's life.

After many years of persecution they charted a large number of ships and set sail east from the far shores of Morrowind out across the Padomeric Ocean. Taking with them all the Dwemer knowledge and artifacts they could carry.

With them went their families and a number of friends, all looking to start a new life far from the dogma of Morrowind. That was more than 800 years ago now.

After many weeks at sea they where caught up in a storm and where driven off course, but luck smiled on them that day as they came across a large uncharted island chain. An archipelago that they named "The Slumbering Isles" because of the number of dormant volcanoes the isles where made up of.

Their first colonies soon thrived and expanded into the thriving technologically advanced society you will find here today, ruled by an elected government and not a Royal family. Each area also developed it's own local council which would make decisions on local matters.

Permissions:
If you wish to use any of the assets in this project…

Please note I can ‘not’ give you blanket permission to use any of our assets.

I can however give permission for you to use any assets with the prefix of ls, wl, ss or tw (these are mine) and any beginning SW (those are from MrSwiviller) for all others you ‘must’ get permission from the original modders.

You are welcome however to use any of the assets, so long as you do not extract them from the BSA’s to use them but instead make your mod dependent on those BSA’s

A Brief outline of the projects history:
This mod started in 2006, when Shannon asked Barabus if he could use his city meshes for a modding project that was inspired by the game "Vampire The masquerade: Bloodlines". Others soon joined the project, which was now dubbed Port Jarvik. Amongst the earliest contributors were Niels, Kieve, Cardboard Box, Denina and Elynda. The focus primarily lay on building a big city dominated by Tudor and Victorian architecture, to which quests could later be added. Lore was also developed, however, as were a few basic quest lines.

Mod development slowed down in 2007. A few alpha versions were released, primarily through CanadianIce and Howndog's TES forum. From 2008, Shannon mostly worked alone. He was joined in late 2009 by Mr. Swiveller, who had built a cell inspired by the Circus in Bath using Barabus's meshes.  I joined them in 2010. Others soon joined, leading to the formation of a new team. Then unfortunately in 2014 the decision to put the project on indefinite hold was taken.

Many modders have kindly allowed us to use their resources, some of them originally made for other games such as Mount and Blade or Sims 2. We would like to thank all of them for their contributions. There are two modders, however, to whom we owe particular gratitude: Barabus and Gutekfiutek. The resources which they created quite literally dominate the landscape, giving the mod a flavour not found anywhere else.
