To be accurate this is done by deleting the greeting:

This makes it so even if the games deadcount record says you killed huleeya it doesn't matter. so now Caius will be friendly again. this is the only workaround I have found for this issue.
If any issue arises message me on Nexus or on reddit (under the same name, user/Jackleson). If you have any trouble similar to this and this is not quite exactly the workaround you were looking for feel free to ask about it. (obviously, issues with killing other essential NPC could be sorted also)
