This is not so much a bug as an unfortunate interaction -- if you use the scroll wheel to pick up Fargoth's ring during character creation, whatever-it-is that triggers "you have a Magic Menu now" etc. doesn't trigger. You can proceed through the door to get your package for Caius.
Workaround: put the ring back in the barrel and do the traditional drag-and-drop back into your inventory.
Probably this is some kind of generic problem with scripted-taking-out actions, so there may be other places where problems could appear. I don't know if it's fixable, but I think it's maybe worth warning about in the mod description.
