I think it has something to do with file extensions and bitrate. In my experience, anything that isn't an MP3 at 44100 Hz will come up with an error and sometimes crash the game.
I believe they toned down their the setting to 0 in the "Combat enemy health threshold modifier", this limits when combat music will play depending on the health of the enemy as to not spam music for like a second when you kill something in one hit.
I have a few files from the same source with seemingly similar attributes which cause crashes when others do not. Thanks for mentioning the 44100 Hz. I'll try that and will see if it helps. Other than that, the mod works flawlessly (and is an absolute joy).
A note for anyone willing to try out this mod; there have been a LOT of reports of game crashing when you didn't put any music under Music\MS\General\Underwater folder and you swim underwater in a cave.
As the author has practically abandoned this mod, it would be on your own to troubleshoot this game breaking issue. People have suggested that placing any kinds of mp3 file - even silent one - inside the said folder can prevent the crash.
As suggested earlier in the comments (thank you, by the way!) it seems that sample rate can be a factor causing some tracks to crash. I had a few tracks which kept crashing when I'd eliminated everything else and this turned out to be the problem.
The solution to this was to open each mp3 in Audacity, select tracks, then resample at 44100 hz. Afterwards, export them as .mp3.
I am so happy to have these corrected and hope this is helpful to anyone having the same issue.
Just wanted to throw this comment up to warn people that Deleting Metadata DOES NOT DO ANYTHING IF AN AUDIO FILE IS CRASHING YOUR GAME! Don't even bother with it. Apparently Morrowind just chooses random files that it decides not to play for some reasons. I've had audio files from the same place down loaded and one or two just did not work. Even after clearing the Meta data. So for whatever reason some of you audio files will probably just not work.
It seems region tracks are overriding whatever I put in the cell folder....for instance, the tracks I put in the Ascadian Isles folder play while I'm in Balmora. I dunno what's causing it
