This mod is a conceptual alternative to LazyPilots' Guild Rewards - Abilities mod available here. To borrow the first sentence of the readme of that mod:
"This mod is intended to increase rewards and motivation to play through factions and guild in morrowind by updating the reward structures."
The two main differences are (1) the new abilities are gained via dialogue with other faction members, something I find more immersive, and (2) there is more variety in what you can learn: new powers and spells, besides abilities. The inspiration for some of these came from Balathustrius' Class Abilities mod available at the Morrowind History site.
For full details, including discussions of design choices and balance concerns, check the (extensive) readme.
The plugin is distributed as an omwaddon file, the openmw format. I have just tested it in a working vanilla install (on arch linux, with Morrowind run through wine) and it does not work because openmw generates topic info id's larger than the 32 chars maximum allowed by the vanilla engine. More generally, the omwaddon format is not backwards-compatible, so the vanilla engine cannot read it.
