OpenMW supports this feature. You dont need mge xe for it.
Additionaly, Openmw supports other video formats in place of .bik, such as .mp4.

I've been using this for over a year now and I can't find anything else that suits me better. Many, many thanks for sharing and keep up the good work!

Hi could someone tell me how I implement this mod? Do I just add it to my [Common > Morrowind > Data Files] folder or do I add it to the game data folder? I'm completely new to this please help!

sad i downloaded this, but i read in the description it needs to be 1929x 1080 aspect ratio, i cant seem to fix it sadly enough 1360x 768 is recomended
and if i trye to make it higher, (1920x 1080) everything becomes abut blurry harder to read and distant

Inspired by oxaryequinox's comment from a year and a half ago, I figured out how to convert the .bik file to an mp4 file OpenMW can use. The advantage is disk space. The .bik file is 280 MB, while my converted .mp4 is 8 MB. Here's what to do:

-Download VLC, an open-source media player. Launch and navigate to File -> Convert/Stream.
-Download this mod, unpack the archive, and drag the movie file to the window. Follow the instructions to convert, making sure to name the new file menu_background.
-Delete the original file and replace it with the file you just created.
-Manually change the extension from .bik to .mp4 (it didn't work for me without this step).
-Change the name of the folder from Data to something like Animated Main Menu. Put the folder wherever you put your OpenMW mods.
-Open your OpenMW.cfg file and enter the line to enable this mod, as per these instructions: https://openmw.readthedocs.io/en/latest/reference/modding/mod-install.html (manually installing didn't work for me for some reason).

Mikeandike, if you want to test this out and distribute the converted file, I'm sure other OpenMW users would appreciate it!

      Hey.

I don't know what that means in terms of resolution.

I play at a 1920 x 1080 resolution and it looks great. As long as you maintain a 16:9 aspect ratio, it should be fine.

Does this also replace the intro fade in animation? I'm using it on OpenMW and the background itself works fine, but the intro animation is still the original Morrowind one so it's pretty jarring.

Nope! I should probably fix that, eventually though. I'm one of those people that just aggressively clicks until I get to the menu screen.

To disable the menu intro just download this: http://community.pcgamingwiki.com/files/file/112-the-elder-scrolls-iii-morrowind-intro-skip/

Then put them BIKs in Data Files > Videos.

If you have MGE XE, you should be good to go. MGSO is a just a curated package of different mods, MGE XE is what makes this work.
