The Patch for Purists (which is an essential mod, by the way) mod author has implemented an alternative and expanded version of this mod, which also addresses the Solstheim rumors issues and some other common complaints about Bethesda's Tribunal/Bloodmoon expansions (https://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/47068). FYI!

This is probably the oldest Morrowind mod (by upload date) on Nexus that is still great 11 years later.

Whatever bug was preventing the attacks completely, it's still there. Started a new game with this installed, and got almost to the end of the main quest (literally, till right before Dagoth Ur) with no nighttime DB attacks at all. I forgot I even had it turned on till I realized I hadn't run into any DB/Tribunal quests or been to Mournhold. Turned off the mod, got a DB attack the next night.

So I guess this mod "works" if you want to choose exactly when you want to be attacked. Just have it on till you're ready, then disable it when you want to start Tribunal.

Note: I'm not using any other mods that affect DB/Tribunal stuff or quests in general.

Well, I'm sorry that it did not work for you. Some people report that it does work completely OK, others that it doesn't. To determine what differs ones from anothers, experimenting is necessary to be performed on a machine where it doesn't; yet it works for me and I don't know how to recreate conditions where it wouldn't. So, just go with the original game, or maybe look for alternatives.

Garbage, like the all the rest . It doesnt work long if at all . Damn sure doesnt work if you use other mods. Manipulating load orders breaks it . Sometimes it just stops working for no reason.

I've used this in the past and it worked fine, but I'll try it again to see. Sounds like you're using some mods that alter the affected quests from this mod.
That would explain the problem when changing the load order.
EDIT: I've tried the mod again and it still works perfectly with a new game - if you've already encountered the DB the mod will give you a warning when starting the game.

    Hmm.

"Based on original Avenger's Delayed DB Attack, this mod makes Dark Brotherhood assassins only attack player in his sleep after he reached some significant point in the main MW plot (and accordingly, decent level)."

I have been, I think, mostly avoiding the main MW plot (all I've done is report to Caius Cosades and got the puzzle box - I haven't even turned the puzzle box in yet). Yet I just had my first DB attack - I am level 45, and just became Archmage (which involved visiting the secret library in the hall of justice for Skink-In-Tree's-Shade, and while I was there, I read 3 notes which seemed to describe the main plot). Was this supposed to happen?

Actually, yes, there's a list of events *any* of which can trigger DB attacks, and reaching the top rank in any of Guilds is in there.

I used this mod to prevent attacks but for some reason it would also prevent me from starting the Siege at Firemoth quest. Once I finished the main quest I just disabled it and everything fixed itself. When I disabled the mod 2 script errors popped up: one for dbattackScript and another one related to the Eight plates pub in Balmora (didn't get the exact name, sorry) just in case someone is still checking on this, you can use it, but disable it when you want to trigger the Tribunal quest (or the Siege of Firemoth one).

So I just beat the main quest and realized that I never got attacked. I just updated to the 2.1 version of this mod and got attacked by 1-2 DB assassins on every rest until leaving the building I was resting in lol.

Hi, tried it and it didn't work for me. Got attacked by an assassin the third time I slept around Seyda Nihin. I'm using OpenMW by the way, maybe that's the problem?

Try to type in the console "sv". Will there be among other variables those marked by dbattackScript? If not, type "StartScript, dbattackScript", and see if it works then.

      1.No
2.I think it worked, thank you. I slept a few times and no-one came to bother me. Now do I need to do this with every new game that I start? (I'm planning to play a few characters at the same time)

Anyway thanks again for your time and that outstanding quick reply!

Sorry, double post. Do I also need to save my game in order to keep those changes? I forgot how things worked in this game, it's been at least 8 years...

The idea is that you *don't* have to do that every time you start a new game... but since you have problems, apparently something went wrong with you, so it wouldn't hurt to see if the script is running straight after the start. Tell me if it doesn't.

      Yes, the save is necessary.

You mentioned you haven't played the game for eight years. Did you download the mod right now, or did you have it on your HD for all that time since the earlier game? It's just that recently I uploaded a fix that supposedly had to solve the problem of not running, so if you used an ancient copy of the mod, that would explain it not working for you.

I am totally starting from scratch, my computer from back in the days is gone, I just purchased the goty steam version two days ago and I have been using the Delayed DB Attack patch for the first time. I also tried my luck with the similar Assassin Ambush mod by hollaajith and got the exact same issue, but this time with a Morag Tong Assassin attacking me instead. And I'm not part of any faction yet, just came out of the census office in Seyda Neen with my new character. Maybe this is useful information for you...

So, you did a StartScript dbAttackScript with a brand new character. *Now*, if you type a sv, do its variables show in the list? If yes, but assassins come early anyway, I will have to search more for reasons it doesn't work; if no, I will have to search for reasons it stops. Try to check for sv right afterSStartScripting, before going to sleep, and immediately after that - at which point the script is no longer active?

Okay, more bad news... no dbattackScript is showing up before or after the "StartScript, dbAttackScript" after I do a "sv". I also take back what I said, the mod just doesn't work (new oe old character, it's all the same, got attacked again with my main savefile where I tought it wouldnt happen anymore). Again, Im using OpenMW...

Well I do not use OpenMW, so I can't verify how the mod works in it... but I suppose that other mods' scripts usually run OK there. You got me intrigued. If you're willing to do some more experimenting, try to launch the game with a modified version of the mod.

It's supposed to spew an incessant stream of ' DEBUG ##' messages, so it's not for a regular game. Start a new character with it and see if any messages show at all. If there's none, do the StartScript and see if any appear, and at which point they stop.

This seems very interesting, one question though: if I have been playing with the original mod, can I uninstall it in favor of yours?

You mean the Avenger's version? Well, having a backup before doing a transition is *never* a bad move, but in this case yes, it should not cause any trouble.
