It always bugged me that in Dumer military cultury, heavily relied on usage of medium armor, there is nothing like chainmail. Especially ebony one, given the fact that Vvardenfell held the vastest deposits of this material in the whole Tamriel. A rare volcanic glass, is one of the most precious substances in the Empire, mainly found in Vvardenfell, buried in the lava flows coming from heart of the Red Mountain.
Ebony equipment can cost more than a hamlet with every living soul in it including children.
Such enormous value led some of the most radical dunmer aristocracy to infuse their heirlooms with spirits and blood of their ancestors, usually by the direct will of the latter. This witchery can drive insane or curse anyone outside of the family if he dare to use any of such relics without blessing of the family member.
