About this image
This screenshot comes courtesy of the beautiful and fantastic Skyrim - Home of the Nords project, a province mod that seeks to add Skyrim to the gameworld of Morrowind.
Here you'll note the skyline of Markarth, a more traditional Nordic city than those found elsewhere in the Reach, with mighty stone walls and homes made from timber in the traditional Nordic vein. Far from being a Dwemer city, as depicted in TESV, the Markarth found in Skyrim - Home of the Nords is a city built atop the ruins of an ancient Direnni fortress, and the ruins of these ancient people are still quite evident in the cityscape, though they're far from being the predominant architectural style. The most notable Direnni construction in Markarth is the famed Elfstone Keep, which sits atop Markarth with towers that can be seen for miles around in all directions. Other notable features are the city market, where traders come from all over to sell their wares, and the College of the Voice, first established by Tiber Septim himself for the purpose of training warriors in the way of the Voice. Outside of these landmarks though, Markarth is a political powerhouse, and King Barda, who rules from Elfstone Keep, may well be considered the most powerful man in the Reach, and Markarth is well positioned along the waterways of the Karth River making it a militarily, as well as economically, important stronghold of Nordic might in the region.
For those wanting to see more, we recently did a trailer of Markarth a little while ago, showing off some of the impressive work done by Roerich and Berry. While the city is exterior-complete at this point, it's still a long ways off from a public release, and will probably be going into interior development pretty soon. For those interested in helping out with this impressive project, you should stop by the SHOTN Forums and submit a showcase. Or stop by the Project Tamriel Discord Server and learn more about this amazing project from the developers themselves.
