The plugin still works this update. HOWEVER, Stracker loader has to be updated, by Stracker. For the time being, you can rename dtdata.dll in the exe folder to hid.dll. This is a TEMPORARY FIX, Stracker still has to update the loader to account for any changes on dll loading structure.
This plugin still works on the current patch. It's the loader which is having issues.
To be honest, I don't know if I can define it as some kind of cheating behavior. If this plugin changes the input delay in the original game, then it is indeed a form of cheating. Or rather, this plugin is just an external continuous click assist function ?
It's the latter as far as I can tell, because toggle inputs stop working for the most part when using it (they just won't toggle properly). Due to how the game works, this mod makes the held buttons repeat a lot to simulate holding. That practically lets you hold any button to register an input in the first frame it can be accepted (since you can now spam buttons very fast, which lets you make a "valid" input in the first frame it can be accepted).
I probably wouldn't have played 1500+ hours of this game if I didn't have this mod due to how physically straining it is to play even after you adjust the controls. The controls are atrocious due to the delays, and this mod fixes it by spamming held inputs to make the game accept inputs properly. If the only inputs I can hold are movement, sprinting and a few menu-related ones, the controls are s#*! and need a revamp anyway. Picking up everything on the ground by holding a button should have been a thing by default. Why should I grab 20 items off the ground one by one? That's TWENTY TIMES the needed amount of inputs, for crying out loud! I shouldn't be clicking the same button 2-3 times to register ONE input, either. The game basically eats your inputs on purpose every chance it gets.
TL;DR: This mod reduces hand strain and improves controls by letting you click buttons way less, especially for repeated actions. Whether that's cheating or not is up to you. I see it as a way to reduce the strain on your hands and your keyboard, so it's QoL, in my eyes.
Thank you very much for your patient responses. It's surprising to see someone still answering my MHWI related questions in such a prompt manner in September 2023.
As far as I know, Capcom employs a mechanism in this game that introduces a delay in the response of a button's function to determine if a player is simultaneously inputting the corresponding button in a combination, allowing for distinguishing between multiple functions associated with that button. However, their handling of this can be somewhat crude, as they subject all functions associated with that button to the same delay. For instance, both the Foresight Slash, Spirit Thrust and Special Sheathe of the Long Sword require the use of the Spirit button, resulting in a delay to accommodate potential combination inputs. Nevertheless, when the character enters a special sheathing state, there is no longer a need for combination inputs, yet Capcom does not remove the delay response in this state. This leads to a delay of 5/60 seconds after pressing the Spirit button when attempting to perform the Iai Spirit Slash. To be honest, after numerous updates to this game, it might be something they intentionally kept, but then they removed this delay in MHRS, which leaves me puzzled. While I believe this might be an oversight, if Capcom does not address it themselves, it becomes one of the game's features. Fixing this delay during competitive gameplay with other players would be considered cheating.
However, it seems that this mod operates differently. As you mentioned, this mod makes the held buttons repeat a lot to simulate holding. In certain situations, this mod can significantly reduce the likelihood of developing repetitive strain injuries.
Honestly, I'm puzzled as to why Capcom, a company with extensive experience in creating action games, would leave so many flaws in these features that significantly affect the player's replay experiences (especially considering that their games are known for their strong replayability). I can only speculate that the developers may not have spent extended periods playing the game themselves, as they would surely have been frustrated by these various imperfections after investing hundreds of hours (or like you, over 1500 hours). Especially the menu interface delay and "eat inputs", which not only prevent me from quickly selecting the desired functions, but also, due to rapid clicking, often lead to selecting the wrong option. Every time I open the menu, I need to focus intently to ensure I can accurately choose the desired function. Compared to MHRS, MHWI's menus have more intricate details and smoother animations. However, after hundreds or thousands of hours of gameplay, the negative feedback from these delays greatly overshadows the positive aspects of details and animations. It's truly torturous! Alternatively, there's another possibility that Capcom might not care about the suffering players endure, which is directly proportional to the time they invest in playing their games (I sincerely hope this is not the case).
In general, Capcom's game quality is exceptionally high, but every game tends to have certain aspects that can be frustrating for players.
On a side note, I really appreciate your No More Fest Music in Seliana Gathering Hub (Remove Festival Music). I typically prefer to stay in Astera Hub. Would you be willing to create a version for Astera as well? This is not a demand, just an inquiry, and it entirely depends on your thoughts. Thank you for your responses and excellent mods.
Yeah, I agree with you. Capcom messed up for the most part, it seems. Some aspects of the game are really high-quality, while some are questionably and suspiciously low-grade.
About the mod part, last time I checked, someone already made a "no fest music" mod for Astera, but I'll look into it when I can. I had to reinstall my entire system a short while ago, so getting the stuff ready (and remembering how to deal with the sound editing tools) might take a while.
Edit: Seems like someone did make a music mod for Astera but it doesn't include the Hub. I'll see what I can do when I get my stuff set up. It's not like replacing music with absolute silence is a big deal, anyway. I'm glad you like my work, by the way!
Has anyone else had issues with this crashing to desktop? It closes the game on me immediately after using left mouse button. I only have this, stracker and performance booster installed. I can't really figure out what else I could do to fix this.
works as intended, but i wish it didn't ruin gathering materials and carving. since they need you to hold the button, your character starts over and over again while doing an action with this mod
Ah, I know that one. It rarely happens for me, though. I have been using this mod for a long time, and I think the carve-stop-carve happens when you are carving at an extremity (like wings or head). I never got that odd pausing issue when carving in the middle of the monster.
thanks for letting me know but i decided to delete the mod and make a macro layer in steam controller settings. now i can switch to a controller layout where holding buttons will rapidly press themselves. works somewhat better for me. if i was playing on kbm this mod would be the best option though
For keyboard and mouse, it's priceless, especially if your wrists can get tired and/or painful due to the asinine controls. I never understood why Capcom designed this odd control scheme I never saw elsewhere that works like "you press a button once on ONLY once, except sprinting, which is essentially the only input you can hold". Why not let the player customize their controls to a greater extent to begin with? Not everyone has strong wrists to spam the same buttons 20 times to do one action.
You probably won't get much use out of it if you are playing with a controller, just like you said.
Also, I think the odd carving bug sometimes happens regardless of where you carve, but it's really rare for me. I think I had it less than two dozen times since I started using this mod, and I have been using it for a really long time.
I am still debating whether to use this plugin or not. Capcom did NOT "design a control scheme where you have to spam the same buttons 20 times to do one action".
In the vanilla game, you just have to press ONCE to loot anything you run over. Just time it properly. There is a pretty big window of opportunity for pressing the key. I'd say you have over half a second to tap the key while you run over an item or a footprint etc. In fact, using the plugin is really cheaty since you'll basically auto-pickup literally everything you run over. It just feels weird.
And when carving corpses or harvesting resource nodes, you can simply hold down the button to keep harvesting, without needing any plugin.
I am generally liking this plugin though. But the things that annoy me are that it also cheats at combat by making certain weapons literally fully automatic fire. The plugin also makes various controls glitchy as people have mentioned (it breaks all "press once to toggle" controls)...
I wish it had settings or stuck to just editing the "F" key (pick up key)...
Update: I uninstalled the plugin. It offers no benefits for me and constantly screwed up my ability to use every item that you toggle on/off. It would just toggle itself off immediately again. It was messing up my gameplay. Furthermore, as mentioned by other users in comments here, it breaks certain weapons and makes it impossible to perform their moves since you cannot "hold down" the keyboard key to hold a charge, for example. I see no purpose for this plugin except for really basic gameplay where mistakes and accidents don't matter. But in this game, accidents can mean death and a failed hunt, so I don't like this plugin at all. It breaks so many things in the game.
There is no problem at all playing without this plugin. You just have to learn a few things:
- Picking up items on the ground, footprints etc: You have a generous time window to single-tap the F key to pick those up. No need for a plugin. - Carving: You can hold F by default. - Gathering: You can hold F by default. - Using items: You simply need to learn what the game's animations look like, and you'll only have to press the hotkey once. First you hold shift to start running and sheathing your weapon (that's what Shift does). Next, you have to press the "use item" button ONCE to use the item, if you've learned the game's flow/timing. It's not hard at all.
I am sure there's someone who is being helped by this plugin, but for most of us it clearly breaks the game and makes the gameplay worse. And as shown above, there's really no reason to have the plugin if you simply follow the advice I just listed. :)
If the plugin didn't break the game, and *only* helped with using items, it would be alright. But it breaks too much.
This mod is super cool, not having to click ten thousand times to pick up shinies in the guiding lands is great, but unfortunately it messes up toggle aim on ranged weapons and the claw pretty badly, so Its an unfortunate pass from me.
It messes up all toggle inputs due to the way MHW is designed. The controls are fundamentally scuffed so bad that this plugin has to "spam" the inputs to force the game to detect an input as "hold".
I think it's worth the sacrifice unless you are relying on toggle keybinds or are using a controller. Even then, I'd still recommend using hold inputs instead, with this mod. Spamming the same keys over and over again will quite literally give you carpal tunnel syndrome without this mod, if you are using a keyboard.
