Since release there were continous reports from players who lost their save games due to unknown reasons.
Because of that I recommend having backups, just in case. I am also offering a guide on Steam on how to restore your save game should misfortune struck you.

As you can see from the video, it is an easy and safe act to restore your save game from a backup file.
Modders might find this interesting for exporting their main save game progress to an alternative character e.g. from Slot 1 to Slot 2/3, for testing their visual armour mods for different body types or skin setup variations. The method can technically also be used should one be very unhappy with their chosen ingame player name.
