We're in the same boat, and this simple mod changes that.
I know the weights come from tabletop stats, but on tabletop you don't have to look at a model with LRM-5s scattered over it in different hard points to save weight when a smaller number of larger racks will probably look better.
This mod changes only the weights of some vanilla missile weapons—no changes to heat, damage, or modded variants.
Specifically:
- LRM-5 (regular or stream): 2 tons (unchanged baseline)
- LRM-10 (regular or stream): 4 tons (was 5)
- LRM-15 (regular or stream): 6 tons (was 7)
- LRM-20 (regular or stream): 8 tons (was 10)
- All Artemis versions still add +1 ton
- NARC Launcher: reduced from 3 tons → 1 ton
This last change makes the NARC weigh the same as an SRM-2 and still be heavier than a TAG once you factor in ammo. Unlike most vanilla weapons, this actually makes YAML’s clan NARC the heavier version (since it's 2 tons)—but theirs has better bonuses and takes less crit slots since you'd be using that system anyway, so the tradeoff feels fair to me. Frankly, I had a hard time justifying the use of the vanilla NARC at all before.
As far as changing mod-added variants (Improved, Infernos, Thunder, whatever else), it's a huge pain to try to edit assets added by another mod, and I'm personally going to just look at the weight difference as an extra cost to pay to use those 'better' versions.
This mod is currently working fine alongside most of the YAML suite and several other things without any issues that I've found so far, though I don't use YARW (Revamped Weapons) and can't guarantee lack of conflict with the few others I don't use. It also works fine in a vanilla game.
