Caused by setting "Realistic shadows on plants" to NONE or QUICK. Set at FULL fixed it.

Got glow in the dark trees?
In this case at least, "Realistic shadows on plants" (video option tab) HAS to be set for FULL.
If tinkering to gain more performance, setting that to NONE or QUICK,  glow in the dark trees appeared.
