There is still a chance that something is missing, needs repair or the combination of hardware and/or OS updates can lead to malfunctions! Make sure you have latest driver installed (Audio & Video, DirectX). For example, atm I have not collected any information about which VisualC++ Redistributable Packages are required or necessary.
However, there are some AiO (All in One) setups for things like VisualC ++ that can be downloaded from the web.

About Modding the Windows 7 fixed versions,
Install the TweaksModManager and done!
If the tool asks for backup and you're getting errors,
try using the un-hex'ed original executables.
If you want to play, switch to the hex'ed executables again.
