About this mod

Customize the outfits of Shepard and squad in and out of combat! Pick from hundreds of outfits, and install mods that add even more, all while being broadly compatible with other mods.

Changelogs
The aim of this mod is to bring the character customization capabilities of LE1 up to (and beyond) those of LE2 and LE3. To that end, this mod lets you pick a casual outfit not just for Shepard, but for the whole squad, and lets you override appearances in combat. This does not affect stats; it is purely cosmetic. There is a live preview of the currently applied outfit that you can rotate, zoom in on, and move up and down. This does not include face/hair customization at this point, though that is planned in the future.

The menu will open automatically after the character creator and before the prologue so you can customize your appearance even for the prologue. After that, you can access it from the lockers in the Normandy Vehicle bay. A locker has been added for Shepard.

There are hundreds of vanilla outfits available in the menu: every armor appearance (including unobtainable armors and some unused appearances), full support for helmets and every vanilla breather, and every vanilla NPC casual outfit (along with color and texture variations of those outfits from across the trilogy). Best of all, other mods can add new outfits, helmets, and breathers to the menu without any conflicts.

Other features of this mod
  • cycle between no helmet, helmet without breather, or helmet with breather in the squad screen or the appearance mod menu
  • squad screen will now show you in your current appearance rather than always being in armor
  • optionally hide helmets during conversations and cinematics and restore them after
  • choose to ignore situations where the game would force a full breather on the characters and control the helmet visibility in a granular way instead
  • optionally put Liara in armor during her recruitment mission or on Virmire
  • optionally access the menu from anywhere from inside the equipment screen, including customizing squadmates who are not in the party at the time
  • optionally customize squad mate appearances before you recruit them
  • use armor appearances in casual situations or non armor appearances in combat situations
  • squadmates can wear their equipped armor even when they are not in the party (such as during Virmire)
  • fixed up the models on the male unobtainable armors so there are no longer gaps in the mesh
  • other mods can change the armor used in the character creator, including varying it by class
  • various breathers ported for use by human male, human female, and Asari

Planned future features
  • face/hair customization for Shepard
  • romance appearance customization
  • other NPCs in the menu for outfit customization
  • possibly an armor parts or armor tint system
  • ability to override specific vanilla armor appearances per character without introducing conflicts
  • override default casual/combat/romance appearances for a character

Installation
You must install this mod using ME3Tweaks Mod Manager. Manual installation is not supported and will not work. You must have the config merging feature enabled for this mod to work (default, but can be changed for compatibility with much older mods).
It is safe to add or remove this mod at any point in a playthrough.
To remove, it is safe to just disable/delete the DLC mod in the Manage Target section of the mod manager. You also need to re merge the coalesced/bin file. Mod manager should do this automatically.
To fully remove it, you will also need to restore SFXGame.pcc from a backup, which will break a number of other mods that also touch that file until you reinstall them. It is safe to leave the sfxgame modifications in place.

Requirements
This mod has no dependencies beyond the mod manager used to install it. That said, the LE1 Community Patch is strongly recommended, as it fixes a number of bugs and provides the mod settings menu that adds various options to this mod. It will work without it, but you will be stuck with the default options.

Compatibility
If it doesn't touch outfits/armor for Shepard or their squad mates, you can assume it is compatible. This mod touches only a very small number of level files, and they are either only touched by this mod or have native compatibility built in. Mods this has been tested with: LE1 Community Patch, LE1 Diversification Project, Caleston Restored, Hot Labs Restored, MELLO.

Shepard casual outfit replacers should work perfectly, though if they are using vanilla LE1 outfits, they are unnecessary; the default casual outfit in the menu will be the outfit set by that mod. If you want to update your mod so that it adds new outfits into AMM, see the documentation on how to do that (coming soon).

Tali appearance mods have been tested and should be fully compatible with AMM (one at time still). The small exception is Iconic Fashion Party's Tali option. This will make all appearances look the same even within the menu, so you should avoid this. Tested and confirmed working:
Tali Remastered
Tali Overhaul and Tali Overhaul HD
Tali's LE1 Outfits for Tali Overhaul HD (From NPC Edits)
Subtle Face for Tali
Children of Rannoch
Tali Consistency Mod

Casual Hubs is tested and fully working. Shepard and squad will use their selected casual appearance on the Normandy and wherever Casual Hubs puts them in casual outfits. Garrus and Wrex will use their new casual outfits by default if that option is installed.

Armor appearance replacer mods for everyone besides Tali will work as expected; specifically, if you leave their combat appearance default in AMM, the new armor appearance will show up when the appropriate armor is equipped. The option for that armor in AMM will not show the overridden appearance unless the mod is updated for AMM.

Alliance Uniform Consistency is tested and working with this mod. Non squadmates will have the updated appearance, and Shepard, Ashley, and Kaidan will have the updated casuals by default.

Iconic Fashion Party: fully working to control default armor appearance for most squadmates; it will make all of Tali's armor options in the menu the same, so it is not recommended.

Squadmate face/hair mods other than Tali: mostly working, although sometimes the skin tone may not be set correctly if your mod uses a baked face texture rather than a tinted one. If you have a mod affected by this, you can provide a skintone override for custom outfits applied by AMM to make the skintone correct. See the documentation for how to do this (coming soon).

Of these mods, I have successfully tested Kaidan Alenko Overhaul and Liara Consistency Mod (LE3 version). The Liara Consistency Mod LotSB version has the issue with skintone being incorrect due to using a baked face texture.

Mods that change player/squadmate armors work some of the time, but they do sometimes have bugs. For example, Liara's Asari Breather works, but inconsistently. Depending on what is in memory at the time you load Liara, her default breather sometimes appears. Visor For Turian Medium Helmet has a bug where it hides Garrus' head, so you can see through the visor to the empty helmet. These have been addressed in updates

Mods that only replace armor appearances mostly work, setting the default armor appearance if not overridden by AMM. Confirmed working is Universal N7 Armor, Alternative N7 Armor for Femshep, and ME3 N7 Armour for LE1. Others are likely to work but have not been tested.

This mod is fully compatible with Power and Talent Overhaul.

Known Issues
  • The helmet can sometimes disappear in the inventory screen when you modify the equipment. This appears to be a vanilla issue I have not yet solved. This can also lead to your hair disappearing. It is temporary and only in that screen.
  • There is sometimes a notification after leaving the menu that you have new talent points to spend. This is due to the mod temporarily adding people to your squad and also happens in Vanilla at the squad lockers.
  • There is some visible stream in of textures when you first apply an outfit or load into a level. I will attempt to improve this in the future.
  • Jenkins is not wearing his hat in the menu for his casual appearance.
  • During scenes where characters wear helmets in vanilla, if you remove the helmets with this mod, their hair may look odd. This is because they were not designed to have their helmets removed for those scenes.
  • Kaidan's hair clips through the back of some helmets. This is a vanilla issue.

Credits/Permissions
The mod contains fixes taken from the LE1 Community Patch. Thank you to the entire Community Patch team and contributors for all your hard work and willingness to share that work with the community freely.

All meshes and textures are in the Vanilla Appearances folder. These are vanilla LE1 assets, ported from LE2/LE3/OT1, or lightly edited, and you can use them however you wish. Feel free to reference them in your custom outfits, override them if you want to change how outfits in the menu behave, copy them, whatever.

Thank you to Beckaboo for providing a few edits to refit meshes to different genders/helmets. Also huge shout out to Audemus for providing different color/texture variations of vanilla LE1 outfits ported from across the trilogy.

You obviously have permission to use the classes in the template files (coming soon) in order to extend the menu, and in fact I encourage it.

Also another shout out to CATACHR1SM and MELLO. This mod builds on that version of the BIOG_UIWORLD.pcc file, which gives improved lighting in the gui previews of characters. Thank you for the excellent improvements to the lighting of the game and permission to build on your files.

For a few of the files, you are free to use them for patching, as they do very little or they are built for native compatibility:
BIOA_NOR10_11_PLC.pcc adds a 7th locker for Shepard, and does not otherwise interact with any part of AMM. Feel free to use this/patch with it.
BIOA_NOR10_13_LAY.pcc adds the menu in before the prologue cutscene plays. It is built for native compatibility, so you can just use that version of the file and build your changes on top of it. It will be natively compatible with the LE1 Community Patch and AMM. Any other mods touching that file you will need to work out patching permissions with.

If you need to patch with any other part of my mod, please contact me. I am open to patching but this is a technically complicated mod and I plan to update it, so we will need to work out how to patch while minimizing work for everyone involved.
