CURSOR BUG or DoF/Reshade refusing to work at all?!
Easiest and quickest way to stop it (if you're on a desktop, have a gamepad, and/or are willing to loose your trackpad and figure out how to renable it without a mouse):
Thank user PegasusKoga for figuring out and testing this fix:
"As for Andromeda, unplugging the mouse from my PC before booting up the game solved the issue. The cursor still appeared on the intro screen until i pressed a button on my Xbox360 controller and after that didn't reappear during game play (i only played for a half hour, so take it as you will).
It feels like wielding a big hammer where a scalpel is needed but it will do for now."
Method two, credits to user ReflectedPower: "I may have figured out another fix for the cursor bug. The 'launch as administrator' trick wasn't working for me.
Go into Andromeda's launch options on Origin, which can be found at Origin -> My Game Library -> Right click Andromeda -> Game properties -> Advanced Launch Options,
From here, in the Command line argument space, type "-nocursor" (no quotations). I've read this command works for several other games with similar issues, and this appears to have worked in Andromeda for me." ___________________________________________________________
Method three, credits to user tom-az:
"I also had the problem with the cursor in the middle of the screen. I tried many things, until I came to a solution that works for me:
I start the game via the 'MassEffectAndromeda.exe' in Windows Explorer with the setting 'Run program as administrator',
Have now played 3 hours and the problem is no longer occurred."
You can set games (or other programs) to permanently start in administrator mode by going to the ME:A main folder and right clicking MassEffectAndromeda.exe, going to properties, compatibility, and then clicking the "run as administrator" box. Don't forget to hit "apply."' ___ _ _ _
DoF Fix:
Don't run the game in super sampled resolution. I have to choose 1080p.
Try this if you're still having issues after that.
Thank user gowser for this DoF fix :
"Try turning off Origin overlay by opening up Origin go to your game library and right click Mass Effect Andromeda and go to game properties uncheck "enable origin in game" save changes and then start game from Origin. Only solution that worked for me. No more mouse cursor and now at last can enjoy this great re shade."
If you get the bug where your cursor randomly pops up during cut scenes or something, alt-tabbing seems to fix this. I believe it it be a compatibility issue with ME:A and ReSahde at this time, so not much I can do to help.
Thank Wandy83 for finding this fix:
From Wandy83: [b]Ayway, don't move the mouse when closing menus, selecting dialogue answers, of cutscenes and it should be fine
OMG, we broke 10,000 downloads! Thank you guys and girls so much for all the support, feedback, endorsements, and love. I never imagined this would get so popular when I released it. It's meant so much to me personally to see it grow and read the kind responses from many of you.
I hope to get my newest reshade to an Alpha or Beta stage soon, so people can give it a try.
None of the fixes for the cursor bug were working for me, or they worked at first and then stopped. However, I found something right here on the Nexus that seems to have solved the issue permanently: https://www.nexusmods.com/masseffectandromeda/mods/578
Thanks so much! I don't have the space to reinstall this game again just to test stuff. Pinning your comment. Thanks so much for saying what fixed it for you.
Heya! Sorry for this dumb question, but is it supposed to be really bright? Maybe bc of HDR shader? My monitor is capable of HDR, but it is disabled for personal reasons.
Sadly, this doesn't work with the edition on steam. The screenshots look gorgeous though! (tried both ways to install, first gave me a black screen the second said not a valid preset)
I absolutely love this mod. It breathes some much needed ambience into the game. My only concern is that I will never be able to play MEA without this mod again.
If you try the least latest version of reshade from reshade.me then you should be able to ignore all the install instructions from the mod description as they were written for a much older version of reshade.
Run the reshade. Exe and try my .ini preset file when you get to the prompt that asks if to want to use a preset during the installation.
That should do the trick. I would delete any previous reshade files you may have already installed for MEA, just to be safe.
Thanks and let me know if that works please. Good luck!
Is there a good way to turn down the brightness/gamma? Some scenes are legit blinding. It reminds me of going first person driving in the desert area of Cyberpunk, the adaptive brightness in this game and Cyberpunk is dog awful.
That's really great to hear! I keep wanting to test it out again and maybe tweak it now that I'm much better than I used to be and new tools are available, but I can't find the time or space to reinstall the game. So I really appreciate that!
before i used this mod i got around 60 fps and with this mods i got around 40 fps using reshade 5.0 is this normal? my settings are high with 1440p resolution
I haven't tried with 5.0 yet, but I think it sounds pretty reasonable/expected what you said. ReShade with this game, like the framework itself, seems to cause heavy resource use even when only using one shader for instance. Feel free to disable all but one ReShade shader and see if your FPS turns back close to normal and let me know the results if you have time.
Just my two cents: this mod page is confusing af. The mod files have titles that make you wonder not only whether you're downloading the right thing, but whether you're even on the right page. There is an old file that says "keyboard and mouse users need to use this version", but it's unclear whether that's actually true; and if it is, why is it in the Old Files section?
I don't doubt that there are extensive installation instructions on the description page, they're just obfuscated by the very extensive everything else on the description page. All the content is in different sizes and colours, but the structure isn't very intuitive.
Don't get me wrong, I am not complaining in the least. This looks like an incredible mod and I will be back with an edit once I've figured out how to install and try it. All I'm saying is that if this does what it says on the tin, then I think you would get a lot more users and supporters by tidying up the tin. Either way, I genuinely respect all the hard work and I will be supporting on YouTube as requested.
EDIT: Standard installation instructions are simple and worked for me. Ignore the file names and just download the second file (as of Nov 2021). The reshading is beautiful. My two biggest issues with vanilla, high gamma and poor contrast, are a thing of the past. In general I dislike bloom, DoF, film grain and vignette, and it was easy to turn those off and customise the shaders using the mod interface. Highly recommended for all players.
Hi, I downloaded your MOD & installed it following your description. But when I launch the game it`s stuck on a black window. Is their something that I did wrong? I really want your mod cause it looks gorgeous. Thanks.
So, I'm not able to check if you did anything wrong, but usually if someone installs ReShade incorrectly, usually ReShade will simply not load into their game or the ReShade UI may load up but no visual changes take place.
I mention this to say that you probably installed everything correctly, but, bizarrely, the ReShade framework itself seems to have a lot of compile problems with Mass Effect Andromeda. This usually doesn't happen with most games, but something is weird this game's compiler. I even have extremely long load times on an SSD with this game without ReShade installed.
My only advice would be to try different versions of the ReShade framework itself. Can you try installing the newest version of ReShade if you haven't already?
You can find the latest version here: https://reshade.me/
For ease of use sake, please install all legacy shader package and leave the others unchecked.
Please let me know if this works out for you. Good luck!
Hey Thanks for the reply. I went over the posts for this MOD & you gave a solution of chaning the .ini & .dll file to d3d11 & that worked like a charm. I must say MEA looks awesome with your MOD. But I wanted to reduce a bit Bloom&LensFlare. If I change its value in Mercs Cinematic Realism.ini will it work? Thanks !
That's fantastic news! Do you know which version of the ReShade framework you're running, by chance?
Sure, there are so many values that can be tweaked under the Bloom.fx shader... Easiest way to start off is by lowering the Bloom Amount setting. You can use the .ini file itself to make changes, but making the changes with the in-game ReShade gui is easiest usually and you can see results immediately.
You may need to uncheck "performance mode" if it's enabled in the bottom right of the ReShade menu in order to make change.
