Mass Effect 3

Preparing for Starfield

  • Comment
Starfield, the first game in a brand new series from Bethesda Game Studios, is coming to PC and Xbox in November and while that may seem to be a long way off yet, we're already excitedly preparing for the release.

Update 12 May 2022: Bethesda has announced on Twitter that Starfield has been delayed until the first half of 2023.

If you haven't heard about it yet, Starfield is going to be the debut entry in an entirely new franchise and marks the first single-player RPG released by BGS since Fallout 4 all the way back in 2015. The details of the new game world and story have not been fully revealed yet and we've been eagerly following the "Into The Starfield" video series as it teases more and more information about the upcoming title.

What we do know is Starfield will be using an updated version of the Creation Engine which has been used to power Skyrim, Fallout 4 and Fallout 76 (which is in itself an evolution of the Gamebyro Engine used by older titles). Todd Howard has also confirmed in an AMA on Reddit that Starfield will have full mod support, which is great news for our community!

So what are we doing to prepare for Starfield? Glad you asked! We're slowly ramping up our efforts to create a community space for Starfield. This is comprised of a few parts:

  • Starfield Modding Discord - We could have simply added Starfield channels to our main server, but this time around we felt it would be far better to separate the Starfield discussion into its own server. There are already some interesting conversations happening there, including early planning of a Community Patch for the game. If you're interested in modding Starfield, please do check it out.
  • Starfield Modding Forums - We've created a new forum category where you can talk about the game, modding or even share your ideas for mods.
  • Starfield Modding Wiki - While it's pretty barebones right now, we plan to use the Modding.wiki site for Starfield to serve as a hub for important information about modding which would otherwise be lost to obscurity in forum posts, Discord servers or Reddit threads.
  • Starfield Game Section - Coming November 2022. We'll be opening the doors on the site section to share your mods, images, videos and collections for Starfield.

That's not all, we're also actively engaging with our friends at Bethesda to learn more about the game and get more modding-specific information that we can share with mods authors, tool developers and the community to allow us to work together to create a modding community that could rival the ones for their previous games.

Are you as excited as we are for Starfield? What kinds of mods would you like to see? Join the discussion on the forums.

Don't forget to wishlist Starfield on Steam or join Constellation on Bethesda's website to stay updated.

There's a little trilogy called Mass Effect. That should satisfy all your talking needs. Then, when you're done and want BGS gameplay, try Starfield.

      BOOM! best of both worlds.

agree 100% No need for voice actor, you can literally speak the lines yourself and roleplay that you're in the game. Say the line, then click it right after, it's like the NPC responds to you. Pretty lit.

A voiced protagonist means no decent dlc/ quest mods.
No decent follower mods. Because when your only dialogue is "WhAt DoYoU tHINk aBoUT OuR rELAtIONsHIP?"
There's clearly not much room to work with.
Compare quest and follower mods of fo4 with those of  skyrim and new vegas. Yeah big difference.

I believe we are playing RPGS, role playing games.
Where is the role playing with A VOICED PROTAGONIST??

The voiced protagonist from Fallout 4 was one of the things that seriously held back the writing and roleplaying, glad it's going to be gone.

The trailer with the FO4 gunplay instead of any attempt of somekind of RPG'ish' combat really made me not care about the game before 2 years of modding.
Can't believe people enjoy a 100% pure shooter in their "RPG" as main gameplay.

      "Pure Shooter"?
Every shot is a roll to hit. Each impact is listed in ck as a "spell"
Get hit with a critical shot? Cuz they rolled a crit and you rolled a fail, Ha.

If it is true that Starfield content 1.000 planets I suspect that it is not a coincidence. 1.000 planets cannot be realistically filled with game content and Bethesda is simply expecting that you, modders, will fill this astronomical gap. 1.000 planets and probably more than 10 years of modding ahead.

    We will see.

Will never understand why people who don't like Bethesda continue to expel this much effort complaining  about something they make clear they don't want and thus won't get.  I swear some of these people act like that by law they'll be forced to purchase and consume the game.

Anywho, loved Skyrim, loved FO4, will probably love this.  Hell I still enjoy firing up those old titles every once in awhile.  Will be getting Starfield at or shortly after launch outside of any unforeseen events.

BGS games are very special. There is NOTHING else out there quite like them. If people have so much of an issue with them, their engine or whatever it is they have an issue with, there's great news. There are thousands of other games that they might prefer to play instead. Me? I like how ambitious BGS games are and I like the amount of value I get from them. Sure they're not perfect, not even close, but I still spend more time in these worlds than most others and I wouldn't want BGS games to be any other way (although I wouldn't say no to some optimizations and bug fixes XD)

      It's called healthy skepticism.
Al it's called critical thinking, it wise not to suck dev c-ck and throw your money at corporations when they are subjected to greed.
Have we forgotten about maid mods, the oblivion horse scandal and oh yeah  FALLOUT 76 already?

When one buys a game, we expect the game to be that of what we see in a trailer, relatively bug free and whatever other content is seen in said trailer.
If the product is anything other than how it was advertised, do you know what that's called?  A SCAM!

I'm not saying this is the case for starfield. We will see on release.

I´m extremely wary of Bethesda since they decided to first dumbify FO4 and then the dumpster fire that is 76.. I very much believe we´re going to see a bugged out game with micro-transactions.. Wokery ad nauseam and no actual roleplaying.. I refer to FO4 with its system of "whatever you do I´m gonna answer the same way" mechanism..  I´ll wait and see.. maybe I´ll be pleasantly surprised but.. I´m not betting on it

Starfield will be single player so don't worry about micro transaction, and Xbox team is involved so they are gonna make them work harder to fix bugs.

@TheAKGyt What the hell are you talking about? Microtransactions in Singleplayer games has been normal for at least 10 years. Bethesda even arguably invented it with the Horse Armor in Oblivion.

      • In Starfield's character creation, players can select their pronouns (Howard lists he, she, and they), and Bethesda has recorded "all the relevant dialogue to support that choice."

I just hope mod support gets a priority over wokery support

sadly it will likely be this way. I have no faith in human beings. Money to be made with least amount of effort is how companies seem to go once they've gotten a name for themselves. Rockstar kinda blew me away with Read Dead 2, i'm praying bethesda have realized the value of a truly good game made with love. Regardless, i think that microtransactions will be here to stay. It's too easy to make money that way. Let's just pray that crucial features are not what's on the menu.

I agree, but with the silent protagonist. Modders will least be able fix some of the main quests even if the story is bad.

Unlike fo4 where the gameplay is good but the story makes me want to puke.

This game is surely going to need mods to get over the glaring reused since early 2000's idiotic "stand there and take it" AI enemy tactics.  They've been throwing that old tired crap into their games since the beginning. One of these 1000 planets needs to be Tamriel. Land and launch Skyrim V Part two, picked up and thrown into the back of a cart on your way to be executed.

I honestly wish people would wait before adding mods and let them patch the game a bit. All that's going to happen is you're going to have to bring out a compatibility mod every time they update the game.
