Description

God, this game is so much better with EDI. - Ninemil

Designed with new players in mind, Enhanced DLC Integration (EDI) finally provides an answer to questions such as "When should I play the Leviathan DLC?"  and "What is the best time to start the Omega DLC?" by making downloadable content feel as if it was never DLC at all -- but rather a part of the story from the very beginning.

Throughout that process, it also:
  • Fixes bugs
  • Corrects any narrative/gameplay inconsistencies and contradictions
  • When necessary, restores cut content and introduces polish

Every piece of DLC is unique -- which means that each one required a different approach and treatment. Below is a brief summary of changes for each; the full scope of all changes -- including explanations for each one, as well as transcripts of the new emails -- can be found in this document.

Spoiler warning; mod is best experienced without spoilers ]

From Ashes:
Spoiler:
Show

  • Mission expires once the Leviathan DLC is completed
  • Enemy types are gated based on your playthrough. For instance, an Atlas will not appear unless you completed Priority: Sur'kesh first
  • Javik sends an email before Thessia in which he states how he suspects what the Asari are hiding and requests to accompany Shepard on the mission
  • Other changes

Leviathan:
Spoiler:
Show

  • Plays out between Thessia and Horizon
  • Foreshadowed throughout the game via emails from Bernard Plim
  • Hackett now considers Shepard's diversion to Horizon to be too risky and wishes to gather intel first. While his recon team is doing that, he sends Shepard to assist Dr. Bryson in the search for Leviathan. Hackett's decision is based on existing dialogue and the new emails were written very carefully so that they match Hackett's writing style.
  • Ending soundtrack has been restored
  • Fixes and restructuring to the flow of some dialogue with the Catalyst
  • Other changes

Omega:
Spoiler:
Show

  • Unlocks once 3 conditions are met:
    • Priority: Tuchanka is completed
    • Shepard completed all of Aria’s side quests on the Citadel.
    • Shepard agreed to help Aria retake the station and asked how she plans to do so.
  • Completely restored the original progression and dialogue of the side quests regarding the Terminus Gangs, thus tripling the amount of Aria's dialogue and making everything a singular quest chain that ultimately leads into the Omega DLC.
  • Ending soundtrack has been backported from the Legendary Edition
  • The Omega Nebula cluster unlocks on the Galaxy Map once the station has been liberated.
  • Other changes

Citadel:
Spoiler:
Show

  • The DLC is now the "one more story" that the Stargazer tells their child. Plays separately from the campaign and takes place at an unspecified time during the Reaper War. No other changes to the dialogue or the story.
  • New Game+ playthroughs acquire the DLC just like in the original game.
  • Restored the original talk with Anderson in the apartment.
  • Other changes

Non-DLC:
Spoiler:
Show

  • Ken&Gabby's original recruitment in Purgatory has been restored. If they are not recruited before the Coup happens, you will have the option to pardon them via a Spectre authorization - as per vanilla.
  • The new ending requirements have been backported from the Legendary Edition.
  • A Spectre authorization regarding Admiral Xen has been restored, alongside its corresponding consequences.
  • Eden Prime, Thessia, Cronos Station and Earth are now called “Catalyst” missions. For instance, Thessia: The Catalyst instead of Priority: Thessia.
  • Other changes

Showcases can be seen either in the Videos section or directly on YouTube. [/spoiler]

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
__________________________________________________________________________
1. Will you ever "port" EDI to the Legendary Edition?

A: No. The Legendary Edition version of Mass Effect 3 is a damaged and downgraded version of the original game. That is a fact. Therefore, I have no reason to "port" any of my work, which in this case would mean recreating everything from scratch.

2. How lore friendly is EDI?

A: As lore friendly as it can possibly be. Every decision was backed by some existing content created by Bioware.

3. Do you take requests? Can you make a version of EDI that has feature X or doesn't contain feature Y?

A: No.

4. Does EDI require a new playthrough?

A: Yes. Unfortunately, due to a wide variety of technical reasons, EDI requires a fresh playthrough. Installing it mid-playthrough will break things pretty badly.

5. Can you provide an explanation for your decision regarding the Citadel DLC?

A: Sure, my reasoning is explained below. Just expand the spoiler window.

There's no denying that the Citadel DLC drastically jumps out in tone, atmosphere, humor and overall story. If you wish to integrate the Citadel DLC, you basically have two options -- first is to do what the Citadel Epilogue Mod did and make it an epilogue. This removes the DLC from the main narrative, allowing the humor and silliness to flow unrestricted.

The second option is to do what Bioware did and simply let players decide for themselves. A lot of them choose to leave it until just before the finale. However, that doesn't work for the core goal of Enhanced DLC Integration.

But as the Catalyst says: "There is another solution."

Let's consider the Stargazer scene for a moment:
1) It was originally used to tease DLC. The original message prompt (before it was changed) even incentivized the player to buy DLC. So "one more story" clearly refers to that.
2) Whatever story the Stargazer decides to tell, he's telling it to their child, and so the story is going to be modified for a child. That means a more family-friendly tone. More silliness, humor and one-liners.
3) The story is being told thousands of years after the Reaper War. The Stargazer himself says that "some of the details have been lost in time", so it makes perfect sense that some elements might be changed or made up.

Considering all 3, I think tying the Citadel DLC to the "one more story" told by the Stargazer is the absolute best thing to do.

  • It keeps the story self-contained. Unlike the Citadel Epilogue Mod, there is NO need to change anything. It is 100% Bioware.
  • A story told to a child, thousands of years after the Reaper War; perfectly encapsulates the nature, tone and goofiness of the DLC.
  • The "legend of Shepard" is even mentioned by Brooks throughout the DLC, reflecting what the Stargazer himself said.
  • Many players consider the DLC to be the true, final goodbye to the franchise and its characters. Now it actually is.
  • Avoids the problem of trying to insert it within the existing ME3 narrative.

However, I'm aware that many players may have different preferences. That's why if you're playing with New Game+, the Citadel DLC will unlock as per vanilla. No changes whatsoever.
