About this mod

Manor Lords is great, but some aspects of the economy feel a bit weird to me. This mod aims to remedy that without being cheaty.

Motivation

Manor Lords is a fantastic game with huge potential, but as with many games, some of the balancing choices feel a little strange to me, so I'm making my own balance.

The move to UE5 has made my modding method even more limited than before, so Eco Rebalance now mostly focuses on prices with only few changes to production chains.

I've also uploaded a storage mod to accompany this.

Features

The main focus of the current version is to make Trade Values of different goods consistent with each other so that no item is worth significantly more or less than the components required to craft it.

Here are a few highlights that have the greatest gameplay impact. For a complete list of changes, see the image section or the PDF in the ZIP file.

  • Meat production from Hunting Camps and butchering Lambs has been buffed by 50% without any perks, i.e. one Carcass now provides 3 Meat instead of 2. This does not affect Livestock extensions or the Trapping perk.
  • Sausage production has been changed because I am not a fan of making more food out of thin air. You now need 4 Meat + 1 Salt to make 5 Sausages (Vanilla: 1 Meat + 1 Salt = 2 Sausages). To make up for this, Spoilage for Sausages has been lowered from 0.9 to 0.8, so if you store it in a Large Granary (Spoilage Reduction of 0.8), Sausages will not spoil at all anymore.
  • Apiaries produce 2 Honey per Honeycomb cycle now instead of 1, and only have one worker slot because any additional workers would not do anything anyway. There is no actual limit on how many Apiaries you can have per region (and with my modding method, I cannot implement that anymore), so if optimized, you should be able to produce a little over 1k Honey per year now. Wax is now a very valuable trade item since you have to invest two perks to even get it, and unless you use a Storage Mod to accompany Eco Rebalance, you run the risk of ruining your Honey production.
  • Clothing items have been split into three price categories according to their required materials. Shoes require 2 Leather but will also give you 1 Leather back for some reason (which I can no longer change), so they're the cheapest at 5. Clothes require 1 Linen and 1 Dyes, making them mid-tier. Cloaks now require 2 Yarn and 1 Dyes (instead of 1 Yarn), making them a very valuable trade item.
  • Spoilage has been adjusted for some goods. Berries will spoil as fast as Fish now, while raw Grain as well as Barley/Malt will no longer spoil at all if stored in a Large Granary.
  • Trade Values have been adjusted so that most goods now cost as much as their crafting materials combined plus a small premium for the labor and perks invested. As a consequence of the Trade Value adjustments, many goods have been moved from Major Trades to Minor Trades (and possibly in rare cases vice versa) since the cut-off point between Major and Minor seems to be at Trade Value 4 and items are assigned to either category automatically.

Technical Stuff

This mod edits DT_Items.uasset, which is the central file for item production and trade, so it will be incompatible with any other mods that also edit that file. Check the respective mod pages for information on modified files.

Installation

1) Download ZIP file.
2) Extract ZIP file.
3) Place .pak file in your \steamapps\common\Manor Lords\ManorLords\Content\Paks\~mods. If it doesn't exist, create the folder
first.
4) Profit!!!

Note that while you can enable the mod mid-playthrough, some of the trade values might not adjust immediately and may instead display as Over/Undersupplied, even if they were not before. Give the market some time; it should sort itself out after a month or two.

Disclaimer: I will not guarantee mod support until the end of time. If this becomes obsolete with the next patch and I don't feel the need to make a new version (unlikely, I always tweak my games in small ways), there will not be an update to this mod.

Credits & Thanks

  • Special thanks to Mith86arg for their guide on how to unpack and repack the game files.
  • Thanks as well to Spartan2659 for making More Resources, which pointed me to the guide above and helped me figure out where to look for the values I wanted to change.
  • A huge thank-you to Malpeloll for returning the favor and providing me with an adjusted modding guide for UE5.

Video Showcases

People have been kind enough to review my mod on YouTube. To my knowledge, that's the first time any of my stuff has been featured there, so thanks everyone!
