Introduction

Many people from the Kingdoms of Amalur playerbase may remember a tiny little mod called YSA - Youngneil Shapes Amalur - which was a Cheat Engine script that made several aspects of the game harder; these include things like enemy and player damage, XP reduction, and more.

Unfortunately, YSA did not work with Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning. The remaster did not create a renaissance of modding I personally hoped it would, and with the game being so unbelievably unbalanced, a mod affecting the game's difficulty was absolutely mandatory. I waited and waited for someone, anyone, to make a mod that could do what YSA did. Fortunately, my cries for help were heard, and now I bring you YSA Rebuilt.

Like YSA, YSA Rebuilt is a Cheat Engine script that does everything YSA does, but with easier-to-understand settings and tweakability.

Instructions

1.) Download Cheat Engine here: https://www.cheatengine.org/

2.) Download YSA Rebuilt

3.) Launch KOA: RR

4.) Launch YSA Rebuilt (alt-tab out of running game)

5.) Click the button in the upper left that changes from green to red to green and select koa.exe when the game is running

6.) The game's .exe is now tied to the script

7.) Tick the following boxes: Player + Enemy Damage adjustments (there are some new additions to the table this update, read below for further information)> XP Gain Adjustment > Money Gain Cost/Adjustment > Aggressive Enemies > Slower Health Regen + 50% Potion Gain (tick box for Excess Healing Cap) > Slower Fate Gain > Slower Mana Regen

8.) Select Speedhack in the upper right and enter 1.15

9.) Alt-tab back into game and enjoy!

Other

It has come to my attention that ticking the box for Fate will break the beginning. Turn this off until you reach Gorhart.

September 7th, 2022: Check new update. This fixes a bug that was there from the beginning: the missing enemy health on save load! Make sure to tick the box for "Disable On Load Game HP Nerf (For Enemies Only)." This will fix that issue that has plagued the game since day one that the devs have yet to fix.

It may seem like a complicated process but it really isn't. Note: you do not need to worry about the sub boxes, only the primary boxes. You *can* tick the sub boxes, but it isn't necessary. DO NOT click the boxes that say "just to have a look." You can click the numbers under the header "value" to tweak it to your liking - the comments in each script tell you what a potential value will result in.

I had to hide the mod because some things were not working but everything seems to work so far now (knock on wood). There are some new additions to the table - firstly, there is Overdamage Protection that is optional. With this disabled, you can outright kill certain enemies if your damage output exceeds their health, which was disabled in the original YSA mod; as a consequence, stealth kills were buggy and you had to attack the corpse to kill them. If you tick the box for Overdamage Protection, you won't be able to kill enemies outright with certain damages which makes the game harder, but AFAIK will bring back the stealth kill issue. It's up to you.

There was an issue with healing as well and a new box for Excess Healing cap was introduced where the effectiveness of potions actually works now. Finally, there are new boxes under Enemy Aggression where attacks are maximized by enemies - there should be less standing around waiting to attack, but your impression of this may be subjective.

Please let me know if there are any issues! Note: this is an entirely new creation separate from the original YSA mod. No assets were used from the original, and only the name is shared to pay homage to it.

youngneil1 - You disappeared from the internet a long time ago but you made a great game playable. Wherever you are, I hope you are well, and thank you for the original YSA mod.
