Great mod. I'll track it for now, and download it once the duplicate abilities are fixed. Hopefully we can also see full compatibility with Better Guardians of Light.

Hi, does having a double rre:mind ability (as per your description) cancels their function? Will the modded ability stopped working once I unlock everything else in the post game? thanks

All I used was 010 Editor (any free hex editor would work too like HxD) to edit the files. I used JohnWickParse to make it easier to interpret the format of the uasset/uexp files. From there I just looked for patterns in the data and figured out the structure of the TresVBonusData file (which determines what bonuses you get from bosses/scripted encounters) and changed the bytes that I needed to.

Hex editing won’t work for every mod, but for this it did the trick.

thanks for care to reply , usually in this site most of the people only react to insults and for the rest they ignore everything o.O , when you have some time can you make a tutorial were you explain step by step this procedure? also we need to be able to modify the game's files , i don't like to use those temporary files when we could just modify the game itself , that's sound like an intrusive attitude from developers , that's why simple hex editing need some other adjustment to work

I don’t quite understand what you mean. The files aren’t “temporary” as long as you keep them installed. There’s no benefit to modding the game’s original pak files: all that does is increase the chance that you’ll corrupt your game and have to re-download.

There honestly isn’t much to put into a tutorial, though I’m happy to answer specific questions. The way I did it was not a very straightforward process. I basically just stared at the hex data for 1-2 days looking for patterns. There are 130 or so bonus levels in the game, so I would search for large strings of bytes, and if I got ~130 results, I knew they all had that part in common. Which let me know how many bytes each bonus level was composed of. Then I would make educated guesses and search for other things. So for example let’s say at the 2nd and 3rd bonus levels, someone gets a Max HP boost. So I look for similarities between the those two levels, and determine that the hex value 2C is equal to Max HP+5 (I made up the value because I don’t remember off-hand, but that’s the general idea).

That’s all it is: searching for bytes, seeing how many search results you get and using that info to take other guesses. Seeing what data changes between entries and what stays the same.

Some things are simpler than others, like finding numbers is sometimes pretty easy. If you want to change a boss’ health and you know they have 2,000 HP, you search their file for D0 07 (2,000 in hexadecimal, Little Endian format which the game uses) and hopefully you’ll get 1-3 results and can try changing one at a time.

the risk of corrupt the game by modifying it is because developers are intrusive and arranged those files to react with a corruption is someone try to modify them , this is wrong and intolerable , we must be able to fully modify the game's files just like what happened with final fantasy  12 and any other games so far , i don't care if at squarenix developers feel more entitled to superimpose on the gamers the way they want us to play, so yeah please collaborate with other modders so you can implement the modifications directly in to the game's files , with that said thanks for the other reply , yes the explanation is clear enough , if is not too time consuming i hope in the future you and the other modders can do various video tutorial to show an example of all this , to make it easy for us to understand , also what about all the anti-modding blocks that developers put ? how do you spot them and how you nullify them ?

What you're saying is a conspiracy theory and not real lol It's entirely possible to mod the game's original files, it's just a bad idea. Having them as new separate files is highly preferable. This way, you don't have to back up and replace the originals, keep track of which of the 70+ pak files are modified, etc.

You ALWAYS want the originals intact, even if you never plan on turning off the mods. If a modder messes up and their mod has bugs or straight-up causes crashes, you would have to re-install the game to get the issues to stop, which could take hours depending on your internet. And since your game would get restored to normal, you'd have to re-download all your mods instead of having them in a convenient separate folder.

There is literally no benefit to replacing the existing pak files, rather than creating new ones like people are doing now.

it is like i said , all the troubles and risks you mentioned are quite there put by the developers themselves to prevent modifications , just go ask that to another modder on youtuber , he is called xaddgx absol brasse , he will give  to you the confirmation of what i said and how modifications of the games files is and must be the most normal thing possible to do in those cases , as for the conspiracy teory , they are all true , but back to the topic , just try what i suggested , collaborate with all the modders in order to modify the game's files with the modification , it was done with final fantasy 12 then it can certainly be done with such less pretentious game , it is what was done for so many games so is not like all of a sudden everyone could just forget about this and act like we can mod only thru those temporary modifications , especially because of course it isn't possible to mod absolutely everything , but again  ,talk with some experienced and passionate modder , it will confirm how all those blocks were put just to get in the way of modders

I mean yeah the files are encrypted which is annoying. But for KH3 that was cracked on day 1 so there’s literally no barrier there as long as you have the AES Key, which is publicly available. I can’t speak to the progress on modding the other KH games on PC, I haven’t been following that as closely.

For some reason, When I installed your mods that give you the mobility abilities. This mod doesnt work anymore. Or at least the mp part. I have very little mp now :/

But you still have the abilities? If so I suspect it’s an issue with the other mod. There shouldn’t be any reason that abilities would work but not MP: it’s all in the same file.

How much MP do you have, what part of the game are you at, and what difficulty are you playing on? To be clear, the mod doesn’t give you extra MP. Just moves around when you get MP levels to a bit earlier.

I just got to toy story. Im playing it on critical mode! I have 61MP. I stop playing for a while after I installed the mod, but I could have sworn that i had a long mp bar. Now it only shows a very small one. Even in your screenshots it looks big so im confused as to what happend? Or am I misremembering?

I used a standard mode save file to quickly grab the screenshot. If you’re playing on critical you’ll have significantly reduced MP.

61 sounds about right for where you are. If you’re getting the new abilities then I’d say everything’s working correctly.

Been using this for my first PC run and it's awesome. Would it be possible to do something like this for Oathkeeper and Oblivion? Changing the unlock requirements so that the player can get them on their first run?

The intent of the mod is for the first run, cause you have these abilities from the start in New Game+. It doesn't really make the game easier, maybe marginally, but combat feels much more satisfying. And the way I spaced out where you gain the abilities, I think there's a good sense of progression: the ones you get early on are good for hitting enemies at various distances/angles, but don't deal a ton of damage. You get the more powerful ones later.

I'm curious as to why this goes directly into the Paks folder instead of in ~mods.

Either works, this was I think the first KH3 mod put out on nexus, before the ~mods folder became a standard thing. Any mod will work in the Paks folder too, but having a separate folder is a little cleaner/safer so you don't accidentally move/delete the game's original files.
