i have a little problem with the mod. After i load a savegame the permadeath message is "disabled or not installed"
I checked the dll. Its on the correct place.
I checked kdc launcher.log "Loading 'permadeath.dll' ...
I checked kdc.log "Pak 'c:\games\steam\steamapps\workshop\content\1771300\3472975807\data\permadeath.pak' is opened, root: 'data\' [Mod] Opening paks in C:\Games\Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\1771300\3449835594/data/*.pak
Loading lua init script for mod permadeath ... <Permadeath> Init

Hi and thanks for the report. K1llaro also had issues with the mod. I fixed a few spots where errors could potentially occur, made a new version for him to test, but he disappeared and hasn't responded for over two weeks.
Interesting mod, I will eventually use this AFTER I get back into the game and actually get good again :)
I would like to request or suggest adding a mod that ,instead of permadeath and deleting saves, the mod would instead delete the exit save and autosaves that are created by the game. This would leave the player only able to save using Shnapp's. And if possible, limit the save slots to 1 or 3. Also, an option that you are only able to sleep to save an Schnapp's just gives a bonus to something or adds a health and stamina modifier like food does.
Still, great mod idea and creation of Permadeath. Now can I get this mod for Skyrim's cheat system.....I mean save system ;)
Thanks! Your ideas are interesting, but they might be tricky to implement. Maybe check if existing mods already cover some of your wishes - like limiting saves or changing how Schnapp's work. As for Skyrim... The last time I played it, I was about a third as old as I am now. Honestly, I have no damn clue what’s going on in that game anymore
Hello. I downloaded it, put the permadeath.dll into the right location, as I don't have a Steam version and it still doesn't work. It says that "permadeath.dll is not found or turned off". I tried to change different settings in mod.ini, as I am myself a modder, but still didn't get a result.
3. I need to be sure that DLL is placed alongside other DLLs. After launching the game, open "kcd_launcher.log" in the root folder and check for the line: Loading 'permadeath.dll' ... If DLL is placed in wrong folder or can't be loaded, that line will not exist or will be something like: 'permadeath.dll' cannot be loaded
4. Did you noticed any error message boxes with the "Permadeath" caption after game start?
5. Probably permadeath.dll can't create startup file to recognize by Lua part. Where "kcd.log" is located - in the game root or somewhere else?
Thanks for such a fast reply. 1. 1.2.4 2. D:\Downloads\Kingdom.Come.Deliverance.II.Gold.Edition-InsaneRamZes 3. It is in the logs and Loading 'permadeath.dll' persists in them. 4. Yeah, but only when you load a save. It says that "Permadeath.dll is either not found or turned off" 5. kcd.log is located in the root folder.
Let me try to change the name of the Kingdom Come Deliverance II root folder on the one you use in your path.
**EDIT**
It worked! I had to change the directory path to the one you have in your mod. Maybe you should put an additional note, that the path must be exactly the same and if the root folder named different way - rename it to KingdomComeDeliverance2.
But I also want to know is there a way to reset the permanent timer? I had to die several times to check if it works, so now I want to reset it. Do i need to do it via editing .dll file or just the files inside of .pak will be enough? If one of them, what exactly do i need to change?
Also, I have a nice idea. Make another option. When it is turned on it lets only 1 save to have. The 1 save to have is - save and exit save, which is also getting deleted each time you load the save ( this Mod has it implemented). It will remove the opportunity to abuse saves to get out of battles before you die. The only problem is what save to choose after you die, as there will be no saves basically, as they appear when you save and exit game and get removed each time you load them.
If you can implement such feature in game and solve the problem - your mod will be even more brilliant than now. I am sure it will be used by many speed/death runners.
Could you explain a bit more about the directory changing? Because I thought it may be some bug with extra characters in the path like "." and their parsing. But then I downloaded your version of the game, copied the DLL and the mod to their locations: f:\Downloads\Kingdom.Come.Deliverance.II.Gold.Edition-InsaneRamZes\Mods\permadeath f:\Downloads\Kingdom.Come.Deliverance.II.Gold.Edition-InsaneRamZes\Bin\Win64Shared\permadeath.dll And everything worked fine without any changing/renaming. So, what was unclear?
About 1 save per playthrough:
The idea is cool, and theoretically I can scan and delete all saves except the latest one. But I don't like the idea of deleting a sole save file when the game is loaded - an electricity loss, game crash, occasional Alt+F4, or some urgent reason to leave the game during a combat will completely delete the playthrough. It's not cool. On the other side, if I delete all saves with leaving the latest one, that wouldn't solve the abuse problem. So I don't know yet how to do it well, so that everyone is happy. Probably, if dozen of hardcore players make a poll somewhere, then came to me and ask to make what they decided, then I would do it, if it's technically possible.
About timers:
"Use at your own risk!" you know. I do not tell you how to reset timers. It will be the mod abuse I deliberately set "ignore_existing_playlines = 1" by default, so that players don't ruin their playthroughs and try the mod in a new game first. You can start a new game though
Oh. Unfortunately I mistaken and the mod still doesn't work. I tried everything you typed above though and tried to reinstall a mod a few times following same instructions. All it says, that it is either inactive or turned off, while other dll's, such as one which deletes latest Exit Save - works.
Any other ideas how to fix that? And you said that you downloaded my version of a game. Just for instance, can you type the exact steps you followed one more time, so that I check it once and for all.
Thank you, I'll be waiting for your respone, пан Жилетка
:) Run the game, load any save where you see that error, upload "kcd_launcher.log" and "kcd.log" somewhere and pm me a link. I'll look logs first and maybe something will come to my mind.
By the way I prepared a banner for your mod. Gonna add this on my startup mods' description pages. heheh
Okay I put it on my savefile mods. I hope it helps. Thats a good way to thank you for both Groschen and PermaDeath mods. Using them from the very first day.
I wish instead of only being able to die once, I think you should have 7 lives, and after those are over, you're dead permanently. Because the game isn't perfect, a lot of times I've died by sliding off a cliff that reasonably shouldn't have happened, or didn't realize that I was soft-locked in a quest that had combat and then died, amongst other things of that nature. I think 7 is a reasonable number because the game is very long, and a lot of skills are a chore to get better at like alchemy for example, which has very slow animations and doesn't give as much xp as it should based on how much time you engage with it, in my opinion. I think 7 lives would be a cool mod.
I know what you mean, I had to fight 13 armed men with only one ally, and if that ally died the game ends and you have to reload. Apparently you are supposed to have a handful of allies, but i killed them earlier in the game (not randomly it seemed like a good idea at the time), and they don't respawn. Had to replay that same spot like 8 times before i won.
This reminds me of the noble phantasm of Berserker of the FATE series, where he gets to be revived 7 times to reflect the 7 trials that Heracles went through.
Probably not possible or worth the effort, but i would love a "Death Alternate" mod for KCD2. One where if you die you wake up in a random bed or or prison with all your stuff gone and if you want it back you need to go find the bandit or cuman that took it, wipe the camp and retrieve it from a chest.
Hardcore modes with death alternate are by far the best. But even hardcore modes with real consequence over save scumming is great. Thank you

Version 2.2
- Fixed issue where Permadeath.dll was sometimes incorrectly detected as disabled or not installed
Version 2.1- Added option to disable life loss from fall damage as it may be buggy

Version 1.0i have a little problem with the mod. After i load a savegame the permadeath message is "disabled or not installed"

If it's not too much trouble, could you install it from here and let me know if it works?

Would you look up what the problem might be?
Let's figure it out.
1. What version of the game do you have?
2. What is the full install path?
3. I need to be sure that DLL is placed alongside other DLLs. After launching the game, open "kcd_launcher.log" in the root folder and check for the line:

Done with mods, hardcore mode is out, so finally I can just play this game.
Can this be implemented?
Imagine the twitch streams etc - with sudden sparks and plumes of smoke during character deaths :D
