About this mod

This mod aims to improve the look of the NPCs. A defintely well-doing townswoman walking around in a ragged cotte is strange and unrealistic. But there are some issues (more in the details).

Idea

I have enjoyed KCD since the first moment I saw it. However, this is not to say that the game is without issues. The one that has bothered me is the condition of NPCs apparel. While the player can repair their clothes, NPCs don't do it. As a result, their clothing looks very poor halfway through the game.

This is not only the bad looks that troubled me, it is unrealistic. Clothing was very expensive at the time when the game is set. Even a prosperous noble could afford maybe one new attire per year, not to say about those less wealthy. Now put yourself in their pants: if you know what you are wearing is going to be your only set for several years would you really neglect it and completely disregard any required care about it? No! On the contrary, you would spare it and maintain it every time possible, repair any damages as much as you can. That's exactly what people tried to do at the time. Medieval life was hard and didn't have many bright moments. One of them was clothing. Warhorse did a fantastic job recreating the styles and colours. I was so glad to see clothing in colours other than grey and brown, but this detail has been overlooked.

Now this is not to say that a peasant would look as immaculate as a nobleman. He would, of course, possess simpler pieces made of cruder fabrics. And, of course, he would not wear his best outfit working in a field. But when going out, he would try to look as well, clean and tidy as he could afford.

Highlights

  • Greatly improves the looks of the NPCs;
  • Skalitz refugees and other beggars are obvious exceptions.

Known Issues

The effect of the mod is inconsistent for some reason. It mostly affects causal NPCs that are marked as 'Villager', 'Townsman' etc. when you approach them. For example, the Rattay tailor is not affected. It is said that these changes will have 100% effect after starting a new game.

How to Install

  • Unpack the zip contents into your main KCD folder (usually located in \Steam\steamapps\common\).
  • Run the game.
  • That's it.

Compatibility

This mod changes the following file:

\Libs\Tables\rpg\social_class.xml

It will conflict with any other mod that changes the same file.
To my knowledge, there is another mod that does the same thing, but it's included in a compilation. This one increases the effect and is a standalone.
