Ok if I understand correctly we need the rc.exe from the CryEngine to compile .tiff files into suitable .dds files for the engine. We need to buy it or is there a free version to gain access?
Just for the record, the .ddna file (normal map) storage the glossmap in the alpha channel, and as we can't save it correctly in the .dds format that's why all the modders have "pale" issues with the textures.
If anyone is having trouble unpacking this multi-part archive with 7ZIP, try this...
1. Download the file manually from the Nexus. 2. Unpack the 7ZIP file into a folder. You will see the four parts of the archive in that folder. 3. Shift-click on the four parts so that all four are selected. 4. Right-click and select 7ZIP - Extract Here... 5. You should not have the full 3.6Gb archive unpacked into an Objects and a Textures folder. You can safely delete the original Nexus 7ZIP and four part archives that it included.
I use GIMP with a DDS plugin and I can open the object texture files but I don't know the right format and compression settings to make my altered files reccognized by the game. Does anyone know them?
cryengine DDS files are different from nvidia dds files (they are 'cut' in multiple sub files) containing specific datas to let shaders of the game render textures in different ways (quality/resolution/effects...) you have to use crytiff tools from crytek to create tiff files used by the engine (compiler) when loaded ingame unfortunately it's only a photoshop plugin. an alternative way is using batch script and rc.exe compiler (available with the cryengine) to create these files or try to use that : https://www.cryengine.com/community_archive/viewtopic.php?f=315&t=79061 (but not tested)
i'm not experienced to creating dds files directly because the cryengine do that itself when importing tiff file in the cryengine editor.
I am new to modding, however I am willing to try something challenging. My question is, could these textures be used to create wound decals on humans, punctures in armor, etc?
diffuse = visible map ddna = normal/bump (depends on the technique used to make it) mask = masks most of the texture only leaving certain parts visible Specular = brightness/shine map
Masks are used to hide most of the texture - usually used to hide non-metal parts so metal ones can get a shine without using a different set of textures.

So the rc.exe is mandatory, am I right?
Edit: nevermind I didn't know it's free
does the folder contain textures of castles and other environments?

Thank you again.
diff = Surface visible
ddna = Relief 3D
(Jeux d'éclairages)
spec = Brillance métalique
mask = Masque les parties non métalique
(Surfaces abîmer)
scratches = Surface visible
scratches_ddna = Relief 3D
scratches_spec = Brillance désactiver
ddna = normal/bump (depends on the technique used to make it)
mask = masks most of the texture only leaving certain parts visible
Specular = brightness/shine map
scratches = damage visible map
scratches_ddna = damage bump map
scratches_spec = damage brightness/shine map
I'm not sure that's what they are, but I'm basing it off my knowledge of other games.
mask = It's not moisture after washing our equipment ?
