Press F5 in-game to quicksave, no items required. Quicksaves use the same slots as sleep saves. I played for 100+ hours on version 1.9.6-404-504u (steam) with this mod, so I believe it is stable.
To install, extract the "Quicksave" folder to inside the "Mods" folder in your installation of Kingdom Come (create a "Mods" folder if doesn't exist). If you're on Steam, that folder is probably C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\KingdomComeDeliverance\Mods.
