Rehoming Cyberpunk 2077 Presets

  • Comment
Cyberpunk 2077, despite its rocky release, has been a great success here at Nexus Mods. We've recently seen the total downloads for the game clock in at over 2.5 million! There are new and exciting mods shared every day and we're thrilled you've chosen to share them on our site.

When Cyberpunk 2077 first launched, we allowed users to share their V preset through mod pages on the website. These uploads typically included either images or text files showing which options to choose in the character creator to copy their appearance. However, we recognise that these uploads aren't really "mods" and we've heard from many of you that you aren't happy with these uploads filling out the new mods feed, potentially blocking fully-fledged mods from being seen.

We still want you guys to be able to share your presets, but it doesn't seem right to have them in the mods section. So, starting from today, we ask that you use the Cyberpunk 2077 Image Share to upload your character presets.

Here are some basic steps to get set up with a new image share page:

  • Start at the Image Upload form.
  • Make sure the game is set to Cyberpunk 2077 and the category is set to "Character Presets".
  • Add a title for your image.
  • Add the preset choices you made to the description. To keep it interesting you might want to also add a little bit about your preset and which path you chose. We've prepared an example you're welcome to use as a template here.
  • Add an image showing off your preset (we recommend using Photo Mode in-game for this).
  • Click Upload to publish the image.

When sharing your preset in the image share please make sure that your image doesn't contain nudity, as defined in our Adult Content Guidelines, unless you're posting it in the Supporter Image Share.

This change is effective from today on any new uploads. Existing mod pages featuring presets (and no playable game data) will also be removed starting 18th January 2021, which should give you plenty of time to copy them over to the Image Share.

If you'd like to share something related to Cyberpunk that isn't content which is used in the game itself, we ask that you consider using the Image Share, Cyberpunk 2077 forums or the wiki

As a reminder to authors who might be new to Nexus Mods, you can earn points from your mods through our Mod Rewards Program, don't forget to opt-in! ThunderGod97 has also written a helpful guide on how to make your mods Vortex-friendly too!

What about ReShades and Saved Games?

A smaller number of users have expressed their concerns about the number of ReShade presets and Saved Games uploaded to the website. We believe that as this content is used by the game itself, it still has a place in the mods section. You can block the "ReShade" and/or "Saved Games" tags in your preferences, which will prevent this type of content from appearing in search results or on the game homepage.

My Preset includes a Saved Game, can I keep the mod page?

You can keep the page up, provided you move it to the "Miscellaneous" category and add the "Saved Games" tag - both of these things can be done from the "Mod Details" page.

What if I add a preset that can be loaded by the game?

If a mod were to be released akin to RaceMenu (Skyrim) or LooksMenu (Fallout 4) which allows players to import and export their character appearance in-game. It is likely preset files for use with this mod will be allowed, provided they are appropriately tagged.

We have now started removing any mod pages that meet the criteria outlined in this post. So far around 150 pages have been taken down. If you see any you feel we've missed, please use the "Report Abuse" option on the mod page to notify our team.

If your preset was removed and you need some information from the deleted page, please contact a moderator.

There should be a "save" and "preset" categories all on their own.
Miscelaneous contains mainy things that will be proper mod as modtools get released, like Quality of Life improvement, interactions, and so on, and right now most of it is save and all. Same should be done about "reshade".
If I want let's say heavier rain, I have to find the file, if it wasn't name such and is an option of a "climate" or "weather" mod, amongst so many reshade and all it's getting drown in it.

Right now it seems that many doesn't have the proper content in their name, nor the proper tag.

I’m pro just having a preset tab under the mod categories rather then just banning presets and saves basically.

As I put in the article, you can already filter out using tags. You can't (currently) filter properly with categories.

ban save files as well. They are not mods.

Modders dont have to tag their mods correctly, so blocking the tag does nothing for 99% of uploaded mods.

How can i block a whole category?

Say I want to start a game from a specific point, 'cause I lost my save data or it's corrupted, and some guy upload a vanilla game save and it's just what I was looking for. I know certainly that save files aren't mods, but are helpful as well. I think the point about presets, or save files, or even a text file has to be considered if it's useful for the community. I get your point, I'm just saying.

Feel kinda sad, was my first mode ever removed from the site, I feel dirty now (lol). But hey, this is a community, and if the majority feels that better mods or devsofts are been unseen since this rudimentary way of making presets, well, I support it because it's fair. I'll miss my corpo V - Asian T__T, tho.

I recommend creating a .preset file of that same character using the Cyberpunk 2077 Save Editor (CyberCat-Simple GUI).  Then if you upload it to the mod section it will actually qualify as a mod and its very easy to do.  :)

Thank god ! Should be the same for savegames and reshade presets ! No one cares about your save with all jackets and tshirts in iconic legendary 6 slots or your oversaturated colors and sharpness reshade profile !

Savegames are important in case of getting game breaking bugs (as happened to me with other games) or wanting to play specific sequences again.

How do you block in your preferences the remaining ".preset" files which remain up? There are still just too many of them cluttering things.

There is a tag called "Character Preset", you can block it the same way as described for saved games above.

This is complete bs. They have been targeting me and I've seen multiple character mods still up and about. At least be firm, fair and consistent with your moderation please.

Also, when you remove someone's mods you might want to give a reason. Your moderators have removed my character mod twice now without giving a reason when all they had to do was link me to this page and I would have understood. You're not conveying this very well at all.

      Hi pstorey28,

I'm sorry you feel that way. If you take a read of the article above you'll see that your mod page featuring just a set of screenshots showing the preset options does not qualify as a mod. So we ask that you please post it on the image share. You are not being targeted, we have removed 150+ similar pages and gave everyone a week of notice before we made any changes.

Hope that clears things up for you.

And just to add to that: we've been combing through at least 10 pages of presets and only deleted the ones that featured nothing but images or a text file.

We have not deleted presets that come with a ".preset" file that can be used with a save editor/tool, or presets that included a save game - as part of the main file or in the optional files.

As this was a manual process, we cannot rule out that we've overlooked a preset here or there that should have been removed, and, likewise, that we've removed a preset that should not have been removed. If you feel the latter to be the case you can message a moderator, or Picky and/or me and we'll take a closer look. As of now, we do have the ability to restore a mod page that we may or may not have removed by mistake.

      Thank you for understanding!
