About this mod

Adds some ruins and empty buildings in the river, that can be claimed to create a great outpost.

Permissions and credits
Location:

  • I was looking for a safe outpost for my Rebirth rescues and discovered a small patch of land hidden in the middle of the river, next to the Armor King.
  • At first, prospecting showed absolutely no resources but, it turns out there is a tiny patch of land (on what I called "big island") where fertility, water and stone are at 100%.
  • There is a lot of iron to the west of the river and there are a few low quality copper nodes a bit further.
  • If you want to try something new defensively, this mod or location is for you.
  • If you play your cards right, you can make it so that most of the river becomes your kill zone; where the attackers are forced to take a very long swim while being shot with  bolts.

What the mod adds:

  • A few ruins that are here for decoration AND because once they are claimed as part of your outpost, they will push the outpost marker closer to the mouth of the river, which seems to help the AI actually finding your outpost. If the marker get pushed too far back, the AI tend to try to reach it through the ruin library, which is impossible.
  • A walkway close to the mouth of the river to avoid the first swim to get to the outpost
  • 1 big empty building on the biggest patch of land (which I put here for decoration but can still be used in the outpost. Not very great defensively compared to the rest of the area though).
  • 2 small empty buildings on the first small island and a walkway and stairs to access them. (the plan is to complete the walkway in game to make the swim to get to them even longer).
  • 1 small empty building and stairs for access, across the big island.
  • 1 stone mine on the big island.
  • 1 big empty building on the big island.

How to claim the ruins and buildings as your outpost:

Now, since it is very close to armor king there are a few things to do to be able to build there. First of which is claiming ownership of all the buildings, walkway and stairs. here is how to do that very simply:

  • Open the build menu and place any buildings somewhere in the river (I'd suggest starting between the barge and the small island). This should create your outpost. No need to actually construct the building.
  • Open the in-game editor (shift F12)
  • Select "Town placement"
  • Select "Your outpost" **
  • Move your outpost marker to include some of the buildings. Once it's placed you can click on the buildings to see that you've gain ownership.
  • Redo 4 and 5 multiple times, to eventually claim every ruins from the mouth of the river (the first drowned ruin and the ruin on the cliff) to the stone mine.
  • Close the in-game editor
  • Open the regular build menu and place a structure on the small island. Can be anything but I typically use an iron processor. No need to complete the construction either.
  • Verify your new outpost area: Open the in-game editor and you should now see that your outpost marker's radius has been increased to include a very large area.

** A small thing to be careful here. If you have multiple outposts I think they still show up as "Your outpost" so it might be tricky to select the right one. To be sure you've selected the right one, you should see it disappear when you select if from the menu. If you click on "Your outpost" and still see the town marker (the statue with a radius around it) then it means it has selected another one. If that happens just click on town placement again to close the window and then reopen it.

How to build on big island:

The resource rich area originally belongs to the armor king but it's fairly easy to bypass without breaking anything.

  • Open the in-game editor
  • Select "Town Placement"
  • Select "Drowned Ruin"
  • Move the marker away from the area (like just a bit further away in the river)
  • Close the in-game editor and you should be able to start buildings things

The drowned ruin marker should return to its original position on its own (I think if you save and reload) so if you need to build more stuff you may have to redo those steps.

Traders:

I've noticed traders tend to follow roads when deciding their path; this means that they tend to end up on the northern bank, way up above the cliff. I haven't tried to create a new road that follows the river because I actually like the fact that they arrive up there.

As it turns out, they should always stop near the copper node that's on that path, which means it's a perfect area to create a small mining/trading post that you resupply from times to times.

Wend Stairway mod:

You may want to check my other wend mod that adds a giant stairway from the ruined library to the river. It was originally created to solve some of the pathing issues I had with the WIP version of the mod but, adding ruins along the whole river did seem to solve those issues. Still, the stairway can be pretty useful all the same.
