This mod is "open source": I'm not modding anymore, so feel free to take this and update, edit, fix, add stuff, reupload etc.

The jumpy Compsognathus gave me an idea that, with the help of Open Naja Modding Community on Discord and all the people making tutorials on Youtube, I was able to pull off, although with limitations. This mod adds Beelzebufo as a new species to the game.

Update Notes:

So, after a lot of attempts, there's no way to make it really work properly because a frog is very different from every animal in the game. This ended up being more of an experiment. After some experimentation, there are now three versions of this mod:

Standard: The original attempt, moves the head and legs, a lot of animations breaks and stretchs the model;

Unrigged body: Only the head is rigged, the body is stiff, preserving the model but making it floaty (the head still stretchs);

Alternative: On the Lystrosaurus rig, which makes for a slightly more functional animal, but there are still weird stretchs and the walking animation breaks the leg.

The last two have an extra skin: the original Goliath Frog skin from Planet Zoo.

Description

Beelzebufo was a large sized species of frog from the late Cretaceous period, being closely related to the family Ceratophryidae, which includes the modern horned frogs, although there are still discussions about its classification. Beelzebufo possessed an expansive mouth, that along with its size, allowed it to eat relatively large prey, including small and juvenile dinosaurs. The name of Beelzebufo is a portmanteau of Beelzebub, a popular Semitic deity, and Bufo, which means toad in Latin.

Notes

I used the Goliath Frog from Planet Zoo as a base, and remodeled with a lot of artistic liberty, so it isn’t trying to be paleoaccurate. I based it on a mix of inspirations, the main ones being the South American horned frogs and the African Bullfrog. The pattern is inspired by the Prehistoric Planet version of the animal.

The rig took some experimentation and is very rudimentary, with only the head and legs moving. Even then, some animations make the model go biblically accurate: it tucks its head when sleeping, and the head will sometimes shrink; it also buries half of its body in the ground when sitting (this one doesn’t even bother me tho, it’s very froggy). That said, the main animations (eating, walking, running, etc.) works surprisingly well; some other animations really don't.

It’s also oversized both to fit the rig and because almost everything in the game is.

Installation

Copy the folder to the ovldata. Remember to restart the game if you open the species on species viewer, otherwise it crashes.
