About this image

Welp, its been great while it lasted my dudes. Frontier cocked up the files to make our work more harder to do, even if we do find a way to get mods working frontier will just do it again and again and again. Before you comment saying Kai's mods are working, I don't count his great mods, I mean skin and model mods.

Model edits are as extinct as the dinosaurs they're editing, gone for now, but never erased.

Modding will come back, if not found out then at the end of the games development they might allow modding like JWE1. They were clearly done with the game and when they're done with JWE2 then in theory, they should allow modding since mods do quite literally keep a game relevant. Every mod that is introduced is basically taking their money. Lets take JWE1 for example, Lets say someone removed terrain constaints and frontier were'nt done with the game and was going to do that, then the person who made that mod has taken the money they could have earned. Why buy 0 terrain constaints when you can just buy a mod for free?

If Frontier wanted it, the game wouldn't start if mods were installed. And think of Ian Malcolm: "Life finds a way". Well, it will continue, somehow.

I personally think that modding will make a resurgence at some point in the near future. Yes the files are a bit wonky as of late, but I would trust the process. It just takes time.

No insight here either, but this seems like a huge and negative overreaction. Frontier is not going out of its way to derail modding, it's only doing what is required for game updates to work. Think of what these changes were immediately intended to do (which is to add support for new content in the DLC) before jumping to conclusions.

    TL;DR:
It would not be impossible for Frontier to attempt a crackdown on modding of sorts, but in the case of the changes brought by the JWD DLC & the most recent update, it's implausible that any ulterior motives were involved.

The last update to the Cobra Tools github was literally four hours ago at the time of writing, just so you know.

I just don't understand people saying "fRoNtIeR cHaNgEd tHe FiLE sTrUcTuRe tO mAkE mOdDiNg hArDeR fOr uS." There are literally feathers inplemented in the game, they HAD to change the structure so the game runs better with those models ffs.

I have no insight in this matter. Please keep this in mind.

I am not sure, Frontier changed things to target modding. With the current state of the game, i am not even sure, Frontier would be capable to do those things on purpose. My big question is: "If modding was so evil. Why would Frontier not prevent modding from the get go?" It would have been much smarter. Why would Frontier start now?

Frontier did never support modding, but they did not outright ban it either. If somebody told me: "Frontier decided to add feathers and raytracing to the game. Because of that, the engine and the models had to be altered." I would not dispute such a claim.

Under the assumption, that Frontier is not the evil corporation + my ignorance, i would ask: "Are there legitimate reason to change the dinosaur models/files again?" Breeding = growth stages; Visible genetic mutations; Sexual dimophism? I don't consider these additions to be very likely.
