Since many people still don't know exactly what the current status is for New Species, I'll summarize here what's happening at the moment.
First of all, we can only use certain rigs; stegosaurids, ankylosaurids, pterosaurs and marine creatures (if all of the marines are possible, I unfortunately do not know). So it's not possible to make any carnivores. But for that we are (probably) close to actually having custom prefabs, which should make that possible, of course.
Why we don't have any new species yet is because we are still in the process of "investigating" and understanding everything. The content packs in JWE2 are a bit more complicated than in the first part. As example we don't have fdbs in the DLC anymore, Frontier put everything into the fdb of Content0. This unfortunately makes it a bit annoying with deleting lines, but is not a big problem. Especially because since some time we actually have the possibility to add files into an ovl.
The research system in JWE2 is now different too. It is more efficient and much more modifiable, but a bit more complicated. It is now handled with lua instead of fdb. Not sure, if anyone actually got it right, outside from Kaiodenic and the Cobra Devs.
At that time not very many people try to make a new species. Well, I only know that someone (not sure if he is ok if tell here, so its someone now) created one that worked (outside of releasing it out of the hatchery, because he did it without prefabs) and I'm trying it myself. Inaki (one of the Cobra Tool Devs) is helping us a bit. Be patient for a few more days, and then we should actually have our first New Species.
I'll let you know when someone gets a 100% working New Species, which hopefully won't take too long.
