About this mod

(requires... nothing! Read the description before downloading or reporting issues) Over two months in the making, the massive herbivore Therizinosaurus is ready to slash its way into a park near you.

8/2/21 update: A patch that addresses some small issues with the dinosaur's behavior has been released. The main download has been updated to account for this, and a standalone version of the patch is available for users who already have the mod installed. This patch addresses issues regarding the Therizinosaurus's combat drive and ability to attack ranger teams.

(Note: This is an experimental dinosaur that takes advantage of rig editing. Though this dinosaur is just as safe to use as any other new species, do be aware that this dinosaur may come with a few animation quirks. I must also give all of my thanks to GameVideosForLife for providing skins for this mod.)

This mod adds a new dinosaur to the game: Therizinosaurus, a gigantic, herbivorous theropod that requires no further introduction. If this ends up being my new species swan song as I expect it to be, there's no better note to go out on than with the one dinosaur I've clamored for most since the very day this game was  announced. It is unlocked on Isla Sorna in the campaign and at four stars in Challenge Mode - no research required, you should unlock it as soon as your put down your fifth Expedition Center in the campaign and as soon as you reach that fame threshold in Challenge Mode.

In spite of its usage of the Indominus Rex rig and animations, the Therizinosaurus is an herbivore. However, a friendly herbivore it is definitely not - it will ruthlessly defend itself from large carnivores, it will seek out and eliminate other combat-capable herbivores and, though it will not actively hunt them, it will go out of their way to terrorize small herbivores, small carnivores, small sauropods and large ornithopods (hadrosaurs and iguanodonts). It can live peacefully with large sauropods, mind.

As the overview suggests, this download by itself requires nothing but the base game, no DLC or ACSE required.

To install, either drag/drop or copy/paste the 'TherizinoNLC' folder to the following directory: 'steam\steamapps\common\Jurassic World
Evolution\Win64\ovldata'. Do not rename the folder, do not rename anything in the folder and do not put the folder in any of the folders already inside of ovldata. If you get invisible icons and the Therizinosaurus doesn't come out of the hatchery, you either installed the mod wrong or you renamed a folder.

However, if you would like to use this mod in conjunction with Digital Duck's New Species pack, which includes its own take on Therizinosaurus, you will have to download the compatibility patch for this mod. To install that, either drag/drop or copy/paste the 'Localised' folder to the following directory: 'steam\steamapps\common\Jurassic World Evolution\Win64\ovldata\TherizinoNLC'.

Known Issues
  • For technical reasons, it cannot blink.
  • When sedated, partially sedated or exhausted after battle, its neck and limbs will revert Indominus Rex length. This is an issue related to rig editing and cannot be fixed.
  • Another rig editing-related issue: when being transported, it distorts. It will go back to normal once it reaches its destination.
  • Mild tail feather clipping.
  • When eating, a leaf will briefly appear a few feet below its head before disappearing.
  • Its long neck makes a few animations awkward; in particular, its sleeping animation looks more like a resting animation, and it doesn't properly grip onto its targets when finishing them off in combat.
  • If the compatibility patch is installed, the Therizinosaurus's name will clip in the hatchery screen.

If you find any serious issues that aren't acknowledged above, please do report them; the more descriptive the reports the better, "game crashed please help" isn't something I can go off of very well.
