Just a heads up though, this does mean that modders, you’ll need to update your mods if you touch these systems, otherwise your mods won’t work with the updated version of the game.
To help you get ahead of the changes, Warhorse will be opening a Steam Beta branch for version 1.3 today, giving early access to test and update mods before the full release.
And to make things easier, Pickysaurus has already set up a shiny new mod tag, ‘Tested in Version 1.3’, which you can use to mark any new or updated mods that are ready for the patch.

Improved Support for Inventory Presets
Up until now, the game’s handling of inventory presets was pretty limited. Only one mod at a time could successfully modify a given inventory preset, which caused compatibility issues and often meant mod authors had to work around each other’s changes.
However, Patch 1.3 removes that restriction (yay). Meaning multiple mods will now be able to contribute to the same inventory preset, allowing for better compatibility between equipment packs, loadouts and other inventory-related mods. Which will no doubt be a welcome improvement for both mod authors and modders.
To take advantage of this improvement (and avoid your mods breaking), you’ll need to update your mods to follow the new setup. You can find the full technical details and guidance in Warhorse’s official documentation.
Fixes for Localisation Mods
There’s also a fix coming for localisation mods. In previous versions, these were sometimes loaded in the wrong order, which could lead to error messages or strange behaviour in-game.
That’s now been sorted in 1.3, as long as your localisation files are named and structured correctly. If your mod includes translations or UI text, now is a good time to double-check that it’s set up properly.
You can read more about this in the official localisation guidelines, which provide all the details on exactly what to do.

What Else is Coming?
While the big modding news is obviously front and centre for us, patch 1.3 also ties into the game’s next DLC, and in case you missed the dev stream, here’s what’s coming:
- You’ll be able to customise your shield with your own insignia. Several quests in the DLC involve helping a painter, who’ll reward you by decorating your shield however you like (within certain limits).
- Horse archery racing is also being expanded. It first appeared in a base game quest, but it’s now been polished into a full feature with new content.

Let us know what you think of these changes and whether they’ll help with any projects you’ve got in the works.
