Hotfix 3.0.1 is here! Just a quick update to address some issues and bring some QOL improvements, here is the full list of changes:

# QOL Changes

• The installer should now be able to autommatically recognize the Epic Games version of Engine.ini.
• Implemented FineTune Agressive and FineTune Light, which is autommatically chosen by the installer based on the amount of VRAM-Heavy features selected on the installation process. This should prevent some VRAM related crashes.

# BUG FIXING

• Addressed an issue where Ascendio wouldn't be correctly installed nor uninstalled on the Epic Games version of the game.
• Addressed an issue where the FSR3 mod would sometimes get installed even when no user input was received.

That's all for this hotfix. Just to add some more depth to what FineTune Agr and FineTune Lite do:
FineTune Agr sets textures to medium to add some extra space for RT and FSR3 to be used in pair. This setting is autommatically set by the installer if RT Hotfix, FineTune and FSR3 are chosen together. The idea is to prevent inexperienced users to make their game crash by running out of memory, do keep in mind that you can still change your graphics from the ingame menu if you want to try and upgrade that texture quality. FineTune Lite is just what we had in v3.0.0 and is chosen when RT Hotfix is not selected.

Let me know if you encounter any more issues, and also let me know if what's supposed to be hotfixed is actually hotfixed.

• Mod documentation has been updated.

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: || :::: CHANGES MADE TO SIA INSTALLER :::: || :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

• The application source has been rebuilt from scratch.
• SIA now uses Qt6, so the application is cross-platform compatible.
• SIA is now open source: seifunaru/SIA: Installer application for third party mods and tools. (github.com)
• The application's image preview system has been upgraded for size optimization purposes.
• The background video has been replaced with a lightweight parallax effect for size optimization purposes.
• Application size has been reduced from 270 MB to 40MB.
(note): SIA has been optimized in terms of size, but SIA Windows Launcher has remained untouched. That will happen on v3.1.
• New build methods for Linux have been implemented. These upgrades are still to be implemented on Windows.

I think that's about all for this update. I've missed a lot of things to keep it simple on the changelog, but I think everything is kind of covered here.
A few features have been pushed to v3.1 for time reasons.

This update seems pretty robust in terms of bugs: it doesn't look like there are any catastrophic issues, so I'll take my time with the next patch, but do let me know if anything needs to get hotfixed.

H O T F I X   2 . 1 . 2

Stability hotfix to address a few issues with the 2.1.1 installer.

• Addressed an issue where the user could choose a file other than "Engine.ini", patches would get applied to the file selected, resulting on file corruption (thanks to ElPamp for the heads up).
• Addressed an issue where the image preview for FPS Hotfix would not load correctly.

H O T F I X   2 . 1 . 1

Stability hotfix to address a few issues with the 2.1 installer.

• Rewritten code handling to support UTF16 text: the application should now be compatible with non-latin characters (i.e. Chinese, Russian, Arabian...).
• This update could also help cleaning a few false positives, as read/write operations are no longer directly handled by System.IO, but the environment's internal functions. This is also a step forward to Linux (and other OS) compatibility.
• Addressed an issue where the code wouldn't be properly written in specific cases.

P A T C H   2 . 1 . 0

Patch 2.1.0 is out! This is pretty much a "quality update": I've addressed Ascendio's II.0 main issues, further iterated the original Ascendio idea to get the game as optimized as possible, and I've included a few extra installation options for those people whose FPS were not improving with II.0. I've also produced an actually reliable comparison video and wrote a new mod documentation.

More preview screenshots and a manual installation option are also on the way. I've delayed the maintenance a few hours by now, and I don't want to further delay it more. The mod will be made public as it is, with the manual installation alternative releasing soon after the patch (around an hour or so, I'll make a quick pause for lunch before making the zip file, hehe).

Anyhow, these are all the changes introduced on Patch 2.1.0:

• New "recommended" installation option, which will parse textures at a faster rate so "potato-textures" do not last as long as they used to do on version 2.0; the speed at which these textures are now computed will highly relay on your GPU/CPU setup.
• New "Lite" installation option: "FPS Hotfix Lite" was rebuilt and it's now doing a completely different thing: it's intended for those people with high-end setups (i.e. RTX 3080TI) who were not receiving a performance boost from Ascendio II.0. It disables texture streaming completely to reduce the amount of communication between CPU/GPU. This results in a noticeable performance improvement, but also on a huge VRAM usage, that's why it's only intended for people with very high-end rigs. It's proved to help with stuttering on GPUs with more than 12GB VRAM (thanks to Loki for helping with the performance tests).
• New "I.0.3" installation option: as the name suggest, it's an iteration of Ascendio I.0.3 for those people who got better performance with that version of the mod.
• New "II.0" installation option: as the name suggest, it's an iteration of Ascendio II.0's "recommended" settings, just in case anybody gets better performance with that.
• "Aggressive" installation option has remained the same, and it should still work flawlessly on Steam Deck. Check out if the recommended settings work better for you now though. I do not own a Steam Deck so I couldn't test it myself.
• Addressed an issue where some props would render incorrectly on some specific situations.
• Addressed an issue where collision objects would be visible on some dynamic events and world quests.
• Addressed an issue where the application would fail to properly get the engine.ini file from the manual search (some users will still find issues when selecting the file though: this is happening because you are lacking permissions to edit your AppData files, this is a protection on your system I can not bypass (I can, but Ascendio would be an actual malware if it were capable of bypassing system security)). If you are still experiencing this issue with the mod, try using the manual installation instead.
• Updated the mod documentation to fit the new settings on v 2.1.0.
• New graphic designs.
• New comparison video.
• New manual installation option (will be published around an hour after 2.1 release).
• Updated changelog and posts tab.

I think that's about everything for v 2.1.0. As always, let me know if you encounter any issues with this version either here or on the "bugs" tab. While there are no more major patches planned, hotfixes for v2.1.0 will keep dropping by to address the issues you encounter with the mod.

H O T F I X   2 . 0 . 1 -> 2 . 0 . 2

These two hotfixes were published almost at the same time, so I'll merge them together on the patch notes. Pretty much "emergency patches" to address important issues with 2.0.0:

• Addressed a major issue where incorrect text indexation on the code would lead to anomalies on the engine generation.
• Addressed a major issue where some installation options wouldn't be parsed to the application_context_manager.
• Addressed a major issue with module_data_index which would result on the fog patch being installed even if it wasn't selected.

That's all for these two hotfixes, the application should be more stable now.

P A T C H   2 . 0 . 0

The application has changed so much, I've decided to call this update "2.0" as it's essentially a complete different mod now, it wouldn't make sense to call it "1.1".

So, to the point: SIA 2.0's development went fantastically. I managed to recycle a lot of the original code, so I finished way faster than I expected. Also the fact that Ascendio is a kind of "simple" application (for what we are used to do anyway) helped with the development. Still, there's some degree of cleaning pending to be done, but I've decided to push the update "as it is" and keep working on that later on so you guys can enjoy the new patch as soon as possible.

Here are the main changes:

• Installer application updated from SIA 1.4.3 to SIA 2.0.
• New modular installation.
• New "Ascendio FPS Hotfix 2.0", with massive performance and optimization improvements (won't work on all PCs though).
• New functionalities inherted from the community, like fog removal and ray tracing boosters.
• (Hopefully) Linux and other OS compatibility. Not tested though, so it might not work.
• Steam Deck dedicated settings to help achieve stable framerate on that platform. Use manual installation on Deck.
• Extended support for different GPUs.
• 3 New optimization options (Light, Default, Aggressive).
• Ascendio 2.0 does not only remove stuttering, but also helps with FPS count.
• Overall stability improvements and bug fixes.

That's all for this update. A lot of things changed internally on the application, so expect bugs and hotfixes.

H O T F I X   1 . 0 . 3

Nexus corrupted the 1.0.2 file on the uploading process, this is essentially a re-upload, but I've decided to name it "1.0.3" just so you don't get confused with the corrupted file.

H O T F I X   1 . 0 . 2

This is a minor hotfix to try and address the installer issues for those of you who have "abnormal" characters in your local user name. If you were encountering issues with the installer, try again now and let me know how it goes.

I have no real way of testing this hotfix, so your feedback is super important. Let me know if you are now able to successfully install the mod.

Thanks for your patience, and for the awesome reception.
Cheers!

H O T F I X   1 . 0 . 1

Pretty much an emergency hotfix before heading to bed to address a major issue with the installer, but also took the opportunity to add a few additional tweaks.

• Addressed an issue where the installer application wouldn't throw an error message back if mandatory files weren't found on the game folder.
• Implemented a solution to force the use of dynamic shadows, which have been tweaked to run on reasonable values.
• Implemented a solution to force graphical effects to sit between reasonable values.
• Addressed an issue where the force frame skip would disable vertical sync.

That's all for this minor hotfix, thanks for your passionate reception to Ascendio!
Please let me know if you encounter any issues!

Yay! the mod got released!

Future updates will be displayed here, I'll reserve the first comment just so you can find for this purpose, hehe. Releases are usually problematic: please, let me know if you encounter any issues with either the mod or the installer. My installer has been previously tested by many users in different games, but I had to write a lot of new code to tweak Hogwarts Legacy, so I may have ended up breaking something, one never knows.

Thanks for downloading the mod!

So I see in the installer it says that fsr3 framegen isn's compatible with raytracing, yet it doesn't say the on the mod description page, but the top stickied makes it sound like you can use the fsr3 framegen thing with raytracing. Could I get some clarification on this?

Wow!
Works like a charm, didn't even take a second to install.
Its mind boggling how much fps fix i got, i got a Rtx 2060 laptop and my overall GPU memory usage also went down about 1GB lmao. Kinda ridiculous.
Also i was running Latency boost ( ON + Boost ) mode because i was getting screen tearing. It is completely gone now and am getting 60 fps~ smooth with 15ms response time.
Well done! 👍

How do I completely remove all traces of this mod?  Which .ini & .dll files are modified?
It worked for a time but now I just get a black screen upon booting the game, and "Not Responding" in Task Manager with almost 100% CPU usage.  I've trued "uninstalling" "quick uninstalling" it a few times, and restoring all .dll and .ini files I could find, to no avail.
This mod just broke my game entirely.

This mod just modifies your engine.ini file. Nothing more, nothing less. If you are experiencing unexpected crashes after its uninstallation, or you manually removed the file and you are still experiencing issues, rest ease Ascnedio is 100% removed from your system and your issues are coming from somewhere else.

Wish you luck with your troubleshooting, hope you find whatever is causing your issue as soon as possible so you can enjoy the game again.

Cheers!

It's located in: C:\Users\{username}\AppData\Local\Hogwarts Legacy\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor
You can find it by typing in windows search "%appdata%, then you click on the AppData in the top of the folder screen and then after you double-click on the Local folder.
that's my way of finding it easy, i hope this helps

Hello and thank you for the mod. I am using a 4080 super with a 5700x at 3440x1440 and having the latest version from steam. Have max settings with ray tracing dlss quality and frame generation. I used the mod today and i got crash after 10 minutes. Many times. Then i unistalled it.

Added these by myself to engine.ini

[SystemSettings]
r.RayTracing.Reflections.ScreenPercentage=100
r.RayTracing.Reflections.ReflectionCaptures=1
r.RayTracing.Reflections.MaxRoughness=0.7
r.RayTracing.AmbientOcclusion.Intensity=1

Reflections and AO are much better with these. But the performance not so good got drop to 70fps with frame generation and i feel the movement is not smooth. Nothing breaking but i want to ask what other to add to have better performance? The thing that cause the crash i think was the poolsize code in the engine.ini. After add it i got crash after 10 minutes. Removed it and no crashes anymore.
What other code i can add to improve performance of 5700x witohut adding the poolsize code?

The 4080 super is most of the time at 60% usage in castle and 80% outside. I have 97fps cap due to 100hz monitor. I love the game it is amazing in graphics and with ray tracing like real life in many scenes. But i want a bit more performance for the 5700x. Thank you very much.

It doesn't matter how good your video card is .... the game crashes when over 11.2 GB of Vram is used.
Turn off ray tracing as it is nothing special in this game anyway and reduce texture quality from Ultra to High.

Not once crash since I did this .... and my game used to crash every time in Hogsmead in under 10 min

Thank you for the reply. I have no crashes in over 10 hours in the game with everything maxed. I have seen over 13gb vram usage and 22gb ram and no issues with crashes. I ask how i can have better performance with 5700x with ray tracing maxed. I like the reflections in the castle especially with the 100 percentage they look amazing. But the 5700x cant max the 4080super even with frame generation i got fps as low as 70 and the gpu usage is at 60%. I am waiting for arrow lake to upgrade so i am trying my best with 5700x cpu.

Hello

I installed this mod, when installing specified fps hotfix and RT hotfix where it says that it improves ray tracing, however, when starting the game in the settings I found that ray tracing is disabled and when trying to turn it on and then restart the game, it is disabled again, is it possible to use your mod in conjunction with ray tracing and if so how

Thanks in advance

Hi there!

It sounds like, for some reason, the file which stores your graphics settings is set to "read only". Ascendio doesn't do that by its own, maybe you have installed a third party mod or added a tweak like the shader compiling skip which require you to set said file to read-only.

In order to correct the issue, head to "%localappdata%/Hogwarts Legacy/Saved/Config/WindowsNoEditor/", rigth click on GameUserSettings.ini, head to "properties" and uncheck the "read-only" attribute.

Hope it helps!
