Well, I have some good news... or bad news, depending on how you look at it. I’ve figured out what was causing the issue with the music abruptly stopping during combat or not playing at all. As you might know, each faction has 40-70 musical segments ranging from 5 to 60 seconds. These include smooth transitions (5-10 seconds), combat music (20-40 seconds), and ambient tracks (50-60 seconds). They play depending on what you’re doing on the map: if you’re fighting, combat music plays; if you’re just walking around without enemies, ambient music plays; and between fights, there’s a 5-10 second transition.
In the game, there’s a sound file tree, and it turns out that this tree duplicates one sound segment. This means that a single musical segment can exist in 2 to 5 trees. But what’s the problem? Each tree has its own parameters for playback duration and end time. The issue is that when it duplicates a segment, it doesn’t copy the parameters of the original segment. For example, if I create a 20-second musical segment and the tree duplicates it three times, but those duplicates have a playback parameter of only 10 seconds, the music will stop abruptly after 10 seconds instead of playing for the full 20.
The problem can be fixed by manually setting the timers and adjusting the smooth transitions. Good grief, I spent an entire day just manually tweaking these parameters. But the worst part is the obvious realization that I’ll have to update all the mods I’ve made so far to fix this error and fine-tune the transitions. I feel a bit foolish about it, but on the other hand, no one taught me this, and I guess experience comes with time... God help me.
