About this mod

Did you enjoy the immersion of seeing your helmet in Halo 4, or even in Metroid Prime? Well, I did, too. So, I made these.
Contains detailed hand drawn 4K helmets with HUD elements and simple visor overlays for the added immersion of feeling like you're actually wearing a helmet in a game where the protagonist is, well, wearing a helmet.

All assets were drawn by me in Adobe Fireworks except for the solid helmet pieces which were cut out of a Halo 4 screenshot that I took.
Feel free to use them or edit them at your leisure, but please ask and credit me if you upload them as your own work. These things took way longer than anyone would think.
Thank you and enjoy!

Installation:
  • Download the latest ReShade
  • Install it to the MCC
  • Manually download the mod that's the resolution you play at (can be used at any 16:9 resolution, but you'll need to know how to edit in ReShade)
  • Extract the files, and drag and drop folder named "MCC" into "Halo the Master Chief Collection" folder (my file path is E:\Program Files (x86)\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Halo The Master Chief Collection)
  • Once in game press "Home" on your keyboard to access the ReShade menu
  • If this is your first install of ReShade hit the skip tutorial button
  • Click on the drop down menu at the top of the ReShade GUI
  • Select which visor you want from the drop down
  • Once enabled you can hit "END" on keyboard to toggle the visors on and off
  • Play with the Layer Position and Layer Scale settings in ReShade for small positional adjustments or changing to match your resolution
  • To update, download update file, extract the contents into your "Halo the Master Chief Collection" folder, and overwrite the files

Halo Infinite Visor Update:
  • Added optional Halo Infinite Visor Lines
  • Conflicts in Halo Reach

Current Update:
  • Moved the upper ammo things on the Spartan ODST because in the flashback missions it clipped into the compass at the top
  • Further adjusted opacity on the elevation lines to make them look more dynamic and less obstructive

Previous Update:
  • Modifed some of the physical helmets to more closely match their exterior design
  • ReDrew the Reach ODST visor lines to up their quality and match the color to the other HUD elements
  • Made the Mark V [B] (Reach Default) visor grey like the default armor in Halo Reach
  • Updated the BIOS versions on the Mark V [B] (Reach Default) and the Reach ODST visors to that of Halo Reach
  • Updated the filtration meters on the bottom right to look more akin to Halo 4
  • ReDrew the bottom right hand ammo things
  • Minor text size and positional adjustments
  • Added a transparent blue gradient around the visor lines (similar to Halo 3) on all visors that use the Halo 3 style visor lines
  • Minor changes and corrections to the Arbiter visor for Halo 2
  • Minor positional changes on the BIOS number for each visor
  • Minor positional changes for the numbers in the bottom right hand square ammo things

Description:
I have always enjoyed seeing my helmet in games where the player character is indeed wearing a helmet. I also enjoy continuity between games. My main goal was to design a visor that fit with the overall aesthetic of Halo and was as true to form a possible. These were inspired from Halo 4's HUD/helmet, and the visor overlay introduced in Halo 3; equipped with the proper BIOS versions and all. The Chief visor for both Halo 2 and 3 were made by drawing over screenshots from each game to make sure they fit without any clipping. I also feel that since from the time of Halo 2 through Halo 4 Chief's armor canonically did not change (minus the BIOS update Cortana did while in cryo), that it should look the same between games, hence the Halo 4 and 3 inspiration. As for the Halo CE visor, it has the helmet bill turned black (like it is on the Mark V helmet), the middle helmet bit removed (since there is no piece there from the exterior of the helmet), and the BIOS version updated to fit the Mark V armor platform. Lastly, Arbiter's armor did not change between Halo 2 and Halo 3, so I drew up a HUD to make it look like it's Halo 3 co-op counterpart to maintain continuity, well, except I made it his HUD color from 2 to fit with the other elements.

Version 1.1 Update:
  • Included center dot crosshair for improved accuracy. Can be disabled in ReShade menu or repositioned if you want to play with the values (default is centered)
  • Red and Blue visors for multiplayer
  • Optional ODST visor for Halo 3 ODST
  • Added Halo 4 inspired visor

Version 1.2 Update:
  • Added an updated Arbiter visor for Halo 2
  • Now has a cutout for the motion tracker so it looks a lot more sleek
  • Added as an optional download instead of replacing the main version
  • Consolidated all resolutions down into one download for simplicity

Version 1.3 Update:
  • Added Halo Reach Elite Visor for Multiplayer
  • Cleaned up edges of Arbiter and Elite visors
  • Added a simple Bungie style Halo 3 visor

Version 1.4 Update:
  • Updated Halo Reach Elite Visor. Now fits motion tracker and slightly rescaled for a better fit

Version 1.5 Update:
  • Contains a remaster of every visor I've made. I added new HUD elements, exported them at a higher resolution, and replaced the solid helmet pieces with a 4K version

Version 2.0 Update:
  • Drag and drop the update file's contents into your "Halo the Master Chief Collection" folder to update
  • Each visor was remade from the ground up in Adobe Fireworks
  • Elevation lines fade out towards the end for a more dynamic look (and to resemble Halo 4's HUD)
  • Every HUD line was made with the HUD color of Halo 2 and are all the same shade of blue
  • The original project was done in GIMP with HUD elements imported from Fireworks, but now they are all remade in Fireworks for consistency across all visor pieces

Version 2.1 Update:
  • Re-exported each visor with resized text and a typeface that more closely resembles that of Halo 4
  • Added a drop down preset for the Mark V B visor (Halo Reach Default)

Version 2.2 Update:

Version 2.3 Update:
  • Added a transparent blue gradient around the visor lines (similar to Halo 3)on all visors that use the Halo 3 visor lines
  • Minor changes and corrections to the Arbiter visor for Halo 2
  • Minor positional changes on the BIOS number for each visor
  • Minor positional changes for the numbers in the bottom right hand square ammo things

Version 2.4 Update:
  • Moved the upper ammo things on the Spartan ODST because in the flashback missions it clipped into the compass at the top
  • Further adjusted opacity on the elevation lines to make them look more dynamic and less obstructive

Version 2.5 Update:
  • Fixed 4K Reach Default visor. It was previously an old version on accident

Side Notes:
  • Can be used in any game in the MCC, but each visor was designed for their respective title; i.e. the Reach ODST helmet was fit specifically for Halo Reach, and the Spartan ODST helmet was made specifically to be used in Halo 3 ODST.
  • ReShade can be used with Anti-Cheat. Feel free to use the overlays at your leisure with it enabled or disabled. (I've used these visors with over a hundred hours of gameplay while playing online).
  • Can also be used in other games (I use them in Fallout 4 while wearing modded Halo armor).
