I'm not sure if you're still doing bug fixes for this mod, but if you are, my friend and I ran into some pretty bad issues.
First and foremost, the Spartans have been spawning with the pawns having no weapons. This makes them incapable of attacking, thus making them useless.
Another issue has been the following scenario: Your king is in check, but you have a piece that could take the piece that has your king in check. You can't take it though, because it would put the king in check (according to the game). It's as if the game doesn't acknowledge that there's a way to stop the king from being in check by just taking the piece that has it in check.
Lastly, a small issue, it seems as though elites don't have their true colors. From what I remember, they used to spawn with true black and true white, but they appear to be different? The Spartans are fine, but the elites appear to not work the same way.
I'm unable to reproduce the pawn weapon issue in solo tests. Did you experience the issue alone or with friends? If the latter, how many people were present, and do you perhaps know who might have been host?
Can you get me a video, screenshot, drawing, or other image showing the state that the board was in (i.e. what pieces were where; who was in check; who was trying to move; what move were they trying; etc.) at the time that the checkmate bugs occurred? This would help me double-check the logic for, uh,... check... checks. Knowing whether this was solo or networked play may also be helpful.
The Elites change colors to match their team, but you're right that they don't have "pure" team colors. Not sure why that happens. Could be something about the bipeds; something about the maps; it's not something I can directly control through gametype scripts, so I don't really know what to do about it.
New issue in a 1v1 game, I was white, opponent was black. Black had placed me in check (Maybe not check mate, but certainly check), and on his next turn, Black was forced into control of WHITE'S King, with the top of both of our screens reading "White Team Wins", despite White having been in check.
Thanks for reporting this; it looks like a typo in the code caused this issue for Black Team only, and my pre-release checkmate tests had been on White Team. The problem should be fixed in the newly-released version 1.0.2.
Hey, you seemed to disable bug reporting on this mod. This gametype is a little bugged. You can take control of the enemy pieces. You should test it with others.
Was about to say that, too. Players occasionally get two turns in a row, at which point on their second turn, they can take control of the other team's pieces. Moreover, when turns change, there's no notification that such as happened, unlike in vanilla Halo Chess
I did test it with others and this didn't occur during those tests. I'll look into it some more. Thanks. How many players are in the matches where you've seen this occurring?
(I generally prefer to take bug reports in the comments, and use the bug tracker for things I'm looking into or confirmed. Old habit from back when comments/replies in the bug tracker didn't reliably give me site notifications.)
EDIT: I looked up some Xbox 360-era Halo Chess footage from YouTube, and didn't see any notification for when turns change. There is a "Your Turn!" HUD widget, but Halo Chess+ should also have that. Is that not appearing for you?
Okay, hopefully I have it fixed; 1v1 tests work now but I don't know enough people who have MCC PC to do higher player counts. Full details are in the bug tracker if you're curious. Thank both of you so much for reporting the problem so promptly, too, and I apologize for the inconvenience.
Maybe I should've clarified, the "notification" I was referring to was how the game deletes all players, respawning them immediately, shown by all players snapping back to initial positions. As for our game, the issue occured in a 1v1 game as well as a 2v1 with givdlpls, will test later.
Also, minor pick, but 15 seconds is a bit tight for a default turn time, but of course that can be changed user-side, so it's not necessarily an ISSUE. Just an opinion.
This is so sick and I can't wait to try this out. Chess was one of my favorite Mythic gametypes from Reach, and this addresses many of the issues I had with the original!

I hope this all helps.
