This mod makes brutes in Halo 3 and ODST follow the classic Halo rank color scheme: blue, red, white, gold. In the base game, almost all ranks are blue, making it very hard to tell the strength of who you're fighting. This mod makes enemy strength obvious at a glance, allowing for more planning and tactical gameplay.

Halo 3 and ODST has six normal ranks of brutes: minor, major, ultra, captain, captain major, and captain ultra (there are other special ranks like chieftain, but this mod doesn't affect them). In the base game, all of these ranks are different shades of blue besides the captain major, which is gold. I decided to make their color match their strength like elites in Halo 1 and 2. Unfortunately, there are six ranks of brutes, but only four classic rank colors for elites: blue, red, white, gold, so I had to combine some ranks together. I have developed my own naming system for the ranks too.
Vanilla color Vanilla name Mod name Mod color blue minor minor teal blue major minor + blue blue ultra major red blue captain ultra silver gold captain major zealot gold with brown undersuit blue captain ultra zealot + gold with red undersuit
The minor and major were combined into minor and minor + since they're both pretty weak. They're both bluish but they can be differentiated by different armor and a different colors. The captain major and captain ultra exactly the same strength on Legendary and almost the same on every other difficulty. That's why I felt it was fine to give them the same color armor and only be differentiated by their undersuit color.
The bodyguard rank is another that is affected by this mod. It's a different shade of blue than in the vanilla game, but is mostly unchanged. It's strength is exactly the same as the minor +, so blue is a fitting color for it.
I've also included my tags for this, so you can add classic rank colors to your Halo 3 and ODST mods.
To make this mod, I used VKMT's Improved Brute Shaders. Thank you, VKMT!
Elite from VKMT figured out how to make the Improved Brute shaders work in ODST and helped me to do it. Thank you, Elite!
As an extra feature, this mod fixes the Arbiter's combat dialogue in co-op, as detailed by Kashiiera's video. Thank you, Kashiiera!
It also includes Krevil's Sentinel Beam and Sniper Rifle animation fixes. Thank you, Krevil!
