This "mod" is used to adjust custom model skeletons in Blender to be identical to the way Halo 3 uses the skeletons
The trick is to assign a custom object as a bone
Image 1 the model as seen in normal blender
Image 2 the model but the bones use a custom object

REQUIREMENTS:
Halo-Asset-Blender-Development-Toolset ADDON FOR BLENDER (You can get it on its GitHub page)
How to use:

  • Extract the .zip file
  • Open blender
  • Import your custom model (or Halo model)
  • Import the extracted .obj file
  • Go to pose mode in the skeleton
  • Select all bones
  • Go to bone properties (The one with a bone icon)
  • Go to the "Viewport Display" properties in the bone properties
  • In "Custom shape" then "Custom Object" select the imported file "Bone rotation helper" while pressing Alt so the object gets assigned to all bones
  • if its a halo model the bones would look correct now, if its a custom model adjust the bones so they are in the correct positions (look for the bones to connect except of the last bones from the legs) (see the pictures, i recommend using a halo model for reference)
  • If your model is a custom one, edit the bones of one half with the mirror activated (If the mirror does not work you will have to rotate the skeleton to the x-axis and apply its rotation temporarily, if it does not work still is possible that the bones of your custom model are not named in a way that Blender recognizes as Right or Left and you will have to rename them)
  • Once that half is correctly oriented deactivate the mirror then select the other half and with the halo tools hit invert bone roll in bone rotation helper
  • If the skeleton looks like the image 2 it means you did it right

This is more than anything for making skeletons that use animations of existing characters in the game such as Marines, Grunts, Brutes, Elites, Hunters, Master Chief, Flood forms, etc.
You can aswell use this for seeing in a more clear way a Halo Skeleton type
