USE IN MP AT YOUR OWN RISK. This mod does not alter any files that are currently flagged by EAC or 343, but that is always subject to change as cheaters figure out more and more ways to cheat in multiplayer video games. I am not personally responsible for what you do with your game copy. That being said, if this suddenly becomes bannable, I will update this description immediately. As of 07/31/2022, it is not bannable to modify in-game audio for MCC.
NOW WORKS IN SEASON 8!
This mod is a work-in-progress. All sounds are subject to change, some more than others. Feel free to suggest guns to alter or changes to existing sounds in this mod.
Do you love Halo 3? Do you feel like Halo 3 would be even more perfect if the guns sounded punchier and more modern? This may be the mod for you. This currently replaces nine (more to come in the future) of the Halo 3 weapons with much meatier and more "modern FPS" sounding guns. The samples used to create these gunshot sounds are actual gunshots that were professionally recorded with field mic equipment and have been mixed to fit well into the Halo universe.
MA5C ICWS: This weapon gave me the most trouble out of all of them because it only has 3 individual gunshot samples to replace. Regardless, they have been replaced with sounds that I believe sell the idea that this is a fully automatic .308 rifle way better than the original sounds did.
BR55 HBSR: I originally wanted to make this gun sound very realistic as well, but realized early on in testing that making it sound more realistic detracted from the spirit of the BR55. It now is more realistic than in Halo 3, but has a sound that is still very iconic and recognizable as the Battle Rifle.
M6G PDWS: This weapon suffers from very short samples that, due to me being a smoothbrain and knowing nothing about editing hexadecimal code, could not be lengthened. I did my best to make the gun sound believably like what is essentially a 2550's era Desert Eagle, but it is one of the non-final sounds that I feel needs to be worked on some more before the final release.
Type-51 Carbine: Like the M90 Shotgun below, this weapon is more of an edit of the original sound than a complete redesign. I reworked the tail a little bit, and added a more gunshot-like "pop" at the beginning of the sound to emphasize the fact that this is a weapon using compressed and superheated gas to launch a projectile at 1500 feet per second (a gun).
M90 CAWS: This weapon, like the Carbine, leans a little closer to its original counterpart. I felt that removing that iconic tail and pang would be a sin. Instead of completely redesigning the sound like I did with the previous weapons, I felt that giving the initial blast more of a throaty and punchy sound would suffice.
SRS 99D-Series 2 AMR: Same with the BR55, I originally wanted to simply make this weapon highly realistic and boomy, similar to how it sounds in Halo 2A. I quickly realized that the iconic reflected gunshot from the Halo 3 sound was something that could not be left out. The result is a blend of both. A sniper rifle that is incredibly punchy, as you would expect from a 14mm anti-personnel and vehicle weapon, and still retains the feel of the Halo universe SRS Sniper Rifle.
M6C/SOCOM: Like its big brother, the M6C is an unfinished weapon sound. I have no excuse to not have this one finished yet. Initially I was happy with the sound of it, but soon realized that it was repetitive and sounded weaker than I would expect even a suppressed .50AE pistol to be. This pistol is priority one for the first update that I release for this mod.
AIE-486H Heavy Machine Gun: The mounted HMG in Halo 3 always sounded very weak, even by 2007 standards. Now it sounds like a gun that is actually firing hyper-velocity .308 SLAP rounds. A triple-barreled gun that is firing hyper-velocity .308 SLAP rounds. You will fear this sound.
M41 Light Anti-Aircraft Gun "VULCAN": The Warthog Chaingun sounded very weak, as well. It still does. It's less weak, though. Expect changes to this, as well. Considering it's firing a .50BMG at nearly 800rpm, it should be a little more menacing. Still, it is enough of an improvement over the original that I've decided it has a place in V0.1 of this mod.
