About this mod

Complete 9 level dungeon, very story driven featuring a multistage boss fight, the new LoG Dialog Journal by msyblade, a new system where players do not die but become unconscious for a short period of time, new monsters by Leki & Kuningas, new decor by Phitt and Germanny. About 5 - 7 hours of game play. My first attempt at modding.

Permissions and credits
Come along with the party of four brave souls as they search for the kidnapped son of King Mansell.
Experience the last few terrifying days of the citizens of Steeprock Old Towne, buried in the underground portion of the city, as strange beasts begin to fill the halls. Play along as one member of the party begins to learn of their heritage, and where their destiny lies.

Why was the King\'s son taken, who are the Brethren and why did Steeprock have to suffer it\'s fate. All these questions, and more, will be answered in \"The Missing Heir\".

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Installation: copy the file The Missing Heir Release Version1.dat to your dungeons folder, typically located at Almost Human/Legend of Grimrock/Dungeons.

Playing the mod: From the Legend of Grimrock main menu select \"Custom Dungeon\" then select \"The Missing Heir\"

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Game features:

9 Levels.
26 Secrets
4 Treasures
35 Notes - telling the story of the collapse of Steeprock Old Town. When reading these notes try to imagine being in their shoes, buried alive with strange monsters coming in, not knowing how much longer you have.
Explore the Library on level 2. It\'s is full of references to classic literature, other video games, some of my favorite books, some TV shows and a few made up titles, a game hint, and a couple easter eggs.

A multi stage boss fight through multiple rooms with other monsters joining in the fight.

This game features a system unique to this mod in that players do not die, they become temporarily rendered unconscious, regaining their concensciousness in a short while. No need to hunt down a healing crystal to resurect a dead player. If all four characters become unconscious then it\'s game over.

A note on sounds:
The play testers noted that sometimes when the text appeared they would misse a few lines if they were looking elsewhere. I have added the Discover Spell sound to indicate new text on screen. This sound consists of three notes.

To indicate a new journal entry I use the Level Up sound which is a single note chime. Press C button to open and close the journal

A note on reading:
Be forwarned there is a lot of reading in this mod, (especially level 5 where the majority of the story is told) so much that I like to refer to it as an interactive story. Most of it is not necessary to read it to advance, but in most cases you will be a captive audience and have to wait it out. Might as well enjoy the story.
My apologies to other languages, but English is all I know.

NOTE: DOES NOT SUPPORT TORUUM MODE.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Character creation:

NOTE: The Party must have 4 characters or it will not work.

It would have made my work much easier if I would have just made a preset party for the player, but I did not want that. I want the player to be able to create they party how they want. So if they wanted four mages named Inky, Pinky, Stinky and Clyde, they could do that. With that being said I put forth some naming suggestions.

Use normal names, and preferrably first names only, as it makes reading the story lines much easier.
\"Thomas looks at Samantha with a wary eye.\" is much easier than \"Sir Gordon Lightstriker the Humble Dragonslayer looks at Felicia the Barbarian with a wary eye.\" Keep in mind the lines of text only stay on screen for 8 seconds.

The following character traits are loosely followed in the story line (in order from top to bottom on the creation screen)
1. The party leader, also the only native Steeprock person, and a major part of the story line. (Hint: use your own name
if you want to be the hero)
2. The intellectual, somewhat serious member.
3. The sarcastic joker.
4. The pessimist.

Gameplay

Overall game play is easier than the original game. About 5 - 7 hours of game play. Plenty of food and potions and alchemy supplies.

Many thanks to everyone at the Grimrock Forums. Be assured that
even if someone is not mentioned by name, if they posted anything
in the modding section I probably learned from it.

Final notes.

This is my first ever attempt at modding anything. I have put many hours, weeks, and even months
working on this project. Mostly because I was learning everything as I went, sometimes spending
days working out a problem an experienced modder could have done in 30 minutes.

I have been told there is too much reading in it, but to remove it would be to cut out the
heart & soul of this mod. I know it may not appeal to everyone, but if someone gets a few hours
of enjoyment out of it, then it was worth it. As I said in one forum post \"It may be the ugliest
baby in the nursery, but it\'s mine.\"

If you have any questions or find any bugs I\'m usually hanging out at the Grimrock modding forums
at Grimrock.net

Thanks for reading and playing \"The Missing Heir\"
