1. DESCRIPTION

A complete graphics overhaul. I edited various configuration files to enhance some rendering features as well as unlocking some that were Intel exclusive, allow for resolutions above 1080p and edited the game's graphics presets.
This mod's Medium preset (or low in some instances) is equivalent to the vanilla Ultra preset, so that you can tweak it to your liking.
Does not use ReShade, 3D Migoto or anything like that. Feel free to combine with other mods though!
I get between 75 and 60 frames with everything on Ultra except Vehicle Reflections on High at 1440p, on a GTX 1060 6Gb.
Does not break any online functionality.

2. FEATURES

Every preset has been reworked. Basically, I moved the values for Ultra down to Medium and increased them for the High and Ultra presets. Here's a list of changes:
- Shadows are 8k on Ultra, 6k on High (Vanilla Ultra: 3k)
- Night Shadows (Headlights) are 4k on Ultra, 3k on High (Vanilla Ultra: 2k)
- Objects & Trees LoD has been massively increased. I pushed the values from 3.0 to 20.0. Yup.
- Vehicle Reflections now feature 4k reflection map, more objects can be rendered in them and the amount of faces has been increased from 6 to 32 for a much, much smoother look.
- Anisotropic Filtering is set to a fixed 16x on Ultra - fixing the well known blurry distant textures issues. By default, the game uses a variable filtering, set to a minimum of 4x and a maximum of 16x.
- Each track's LoD and culling has been massively increased, meaning you'll get more stuff in the distance.
- Intel's Approximate Order Independent Transparency (AOIT) is now available for all CPUs. It's a better transparency blending algorithm, improves smoke, grass and particle rendering. Known as "Advanced Blending" in the Advanced Graphics menu.
- Intel's Adaptive Volumetric Shadow Mapping (AVSM) has also been unlocked for all CPU vendors. It allows for particle shadowing, such as smoke and debris. Known as "Smoke Shadows" in the Advanced Graphics menu.
- Rear-view Mirror's resolution has been quadrupled, and more objects can be rendered.
- Cars LoD has been massively improved for both races and replays. Meaning you will get less pop-in.
- You can now run the game at 1440p or 4k on a 1080p screen.

It's fairly easy to get 60+ frames on Ultra, but setting Vehicle Reflections to Ultra ruins performance on my 1060. Your mileage may vary, I'd recommend leaving Reflections on High though.

3. INSTALLATION

  • Download the archive and extract its content into your GRID Autosport install folder.
  • Set the general preset to Ultra, then go to Advanced settings and tweak to your liking. This step is required. If skipped, some settings will be marked as "Custom" and the game won't allow you to change them.
The game may crash the first time you launch it after installing the mod, that's normal.

4. KNOWN ISSUES & COMPATIBILITY

  • Some billboards exhibit a bit of flickering, sometimes.
  • The Ultra setting for Vehicle Reflections is insanely demanding. I suggest using high instead (it's still far better than vanilla Ultra).
  • Due to a bug present in the vanilla game (caused by a typo of all things), two buildings will have rendering issues (missing faces) in Paris. Try the Champ-Elysées track and you'll see. I could fix it, but then it triggers the anti-mod protection (The infamous "Connection lost" loop). A workaround is to revert the "Objects" setting to either Medium or Low when racing in Paris.
