Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy

Red Dead Redemption 2 on PC: What we know

  • Comment
Only two more weeks to go until the PC release of Red Dead Redemption 2 - the definitive open-world cowboy and Western game developed by Rockstar Games - the creators of GTA V.

It has been roughly one year since Red Dead Redemption 2 was released on consoles, and now the wait for PC enthusiasts is nearing its end. RDR2 coming to PCs on 5th November not only means that the game will see substantial visual improvements, but also additional official content, and - hopefully - lots and lots of mods!

When exactly does the game come out and where can I get it?

5th November: Rockstar Games Launcher - pre-order now and get bonus content as well as 2 free games!

The PC version of Red Dead Redemption 2 will be out on Rockstar Games’ own games launcher (and the Epic Games Store) on 5th November. Pre-orders via the Rockstar Games Launcher have been available since 9th October and will unlock additional content such as new missions, horses, or outfits.

Epic Games Store, Google Stadia, and Steam releases

Pre-orders on the Epic Games store will become available 23rd October and the game will launch 5th November - same as with the Rockstar Games Launcher. However, some of the bonus content will be exclusive to pre-orders made on Rockstar's proprietary launcher.

Later in November, Red Dead Redemption 2 will also be released on Google Stadia, for those interested in checking out the cutting-edge cloud gaming service.

Lastly, a Steam release is on the horizon as well, though, we will have to wait until December for that.

One of the eight official screenshots of the PC version of Red Dead Redemption 2 looks truly stunning. You can check out the others in our image share.

What kind of hardware do I need to run the game on PC?

Processor: Intel Core i5-2500K / AMD FX-6300
Memory: 8GB
Graphics Card: Nvidia GeForce GTX 770 2GB / AMD Radeon R9 280 3GB HDD
Space: 150GB

Red Dead Redemption 2 recommended PC specifications / system requirements:

OS: Windows 10 - April 2018 Update (v1803)
Processor: Intel Core i7-4770K / AMD Ryzen 5 1500X
Memory: 12GB
Graphics Card: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 6GB / AMD Radeon RX 480 4GB HDD Space: 150GB
Sound Card: DirectX compatible

What to do in the meantime?

While we are waiting and gearing up for the PC release, feel free to check out our media section featuring official screenshots, artwork from talented artists, and video previews of mods that might be adapted for the PC version such as "Playing as Jack Marston" developed by JediJosh920:

With that being said, we are all very much looking forward to the game’s release on PC in two weeks time. Stay tuned for more updates and feel free to let us know what kind of mods you are hoping to see in Red Dead Redemption 2 on PC.

Right. So suffice to say the actual release is in December when it pops up on Steam... Boy am I grateful that I'm patient enough for that... dislike the idea of having yet another bloody client tho' ffs. We have enough already...
Many thanks for the update regardless you guys!

Perhaps being condescending has blinded you. I was talking about pretending this game won't be released until it shows up on steam, which it does, in december. Did you understand it yet? Or shall I simplify it further?

There's no point in buying it on Steam, you'll have to open the Rockstar client either way.

Pre-ordered from the RGL to support the devs, but honestly, when the game releases, won't it be the same as GTA 5 and other R* games? i.e. their launcher has to be installed to run social club/online features?

It will so why the hell bother getting it on steam? I've been waiting ever since it came out on PS4 & XBone. And no I can't freaking wait another month.

Exactly, it's a similar thing to Jedi Fallen Order, it requires you to download Origin so whats the point of buying it on steam if you are going to have to start 2 launchers to play it

Will I be able to mod the game buying it from The Rockstar launcher? Does it matter where I buy the game from for adding mods to it?

Might want to take a grain of salt before getting the game. GTA online is completely plagued with cheaters and hack. Dumbstar refuses to fix it. They even made an OP devices even more OP because thousands of ppl wanted it

You know, I bought this for XBone and didn't like it...because I could not figure out how to be a good guy...in RDR you had the option to do good but I just could not find out how in RDR2....it was probably just me not knowing how to play the game...

But...if you can not be a good guy in this one, I will pass since I already have a paper weight...

post not meant to troll or start some sh**... just stating my opinion as a 70 yo...by the way, I absolutely loved RDR and did 100% play-thru's somewhere around 10 times..

***(MAJOR SPOILER WARNING)*** Arthur is a bad guy that wants to be good. RDR2 is about him trying to redeem himself. You don't really get the option to be good until the second half of the game.

Technically, Arthur is not a good guy, but you can see he is trying to be one the more you play the game. If it helps, the game uses an Honor system. If you do honorable things, such as helping strangers, you will raise your honor. Basically selfless acts such as helping out strangers and purchasing improvements for your gangs camp will win you honor. Doing things like murdering and robing will reward you with dishonor. Some story driven stuff will force you to do dishonorable things and that is all part of the game. You run with a gang of criminals afterall. The important thing to know is that it's the debt collection storyline is what really effects your honor the game the most. The stories in these missions might seem inconsequential overall, but they actually play into the biggest factor on how the story plays out in the game with one of them rewarding you with the most honor or dishonor depending on the final decision you choose to make. The ending of Arthur's story is determined by his honor level. And, that is all I will say about that.

I think lore-wise Arthur is really a lesser evil kind guy, he doesn't mind to get his hands dirty. Wild west was supposed to be well, WILD. So yeah, morality is gonna be a problem here sometimes.

but you know what's the coolest part of the your comment? "just stating my opinion as a 70 yo" this. Have a good day sir! :)

Thankfully for us game developers can ignore real history.

The American Wild West wasn't even close to being as wild as portrayed in novels, movies and TV. In point of fact other than sometimes harsh living conditions the towns and villages were in most cases more civilized and experienced less violent crime than the big cities did at the time.

The street gunfight/duel between two antagonists was almost non-existent. I believe that there are only 8 recorded types of the aforementioned gun fight that actually occured.

Like I said - good things devs can ignore real history for if they didn't I imagine most modern PC games would be pretty darn boring.

But you -are- more than happy to support Steam's cutthroat cuts for providing their service? It's funny how everyone is OK with every other exclusive launcher, including Rockstar's own, but it's trendy to s#*! on Epic. Don't get me wrong, they ALL suck and Epic is the worst, for sure, but if Steam weren't being such cunts to devs this whole trend wouldn't start happening, would it?

I agree, I want steam to stop being complacent. I am planning on getting it on Steam but at the same time I was thinking of getting it from rockstar. But on the flip side Steam offers a lot of features as opposed to JUST being a game launcher. Whereas other launchers dont have as much yet. In either case I'll be keeping an eye on on the news. I dont mind waiting till december.

I'm a consumer so I refuse to use Epic's Store and launcher. I understand if devs feel like they're getting screwed from Steam and won't use it but I feel like Epic has given me, a consumer, no benefit to use their service over Steam. I will not use anyone's service simply because they buy timed exclusivity. With Steam I have a multitude of options whereas Epic gives me practically nothing. Epic claims to be beneficial to the consumer by being competitive but they're only beneficial to developers who take their money. They've even refused to allow indie games on their store for not accepting their exclusivity deals. Steam may not be great for developers but Epic doesn't really seem interested in helping anyone but themselves.

I've been warning people for a long time that ever since Tencent got some of Epic Game's stocks, they've been acting a little too aggressive. Wouldn't be surprised if the Red Menace intended it this way for gaming companies to be all weird.

i would be interested in a mod that takes the clothing exclusive to online and converts it to single player is that even possible?

If I remember correctly there was a Mod for GTA 5 that took Cars and Clothing and such from the online assets and added it to single player so it theoretically possible.
